About this ebook
Lady Daphne's duty as daughter to the impoverished Earl of Scarborough is to be chaste and pretty. Instead, she dreams of being a professional dancer at a time when stage performers are considered little better than harlots. Talent and determination compel her, but discovery would cost her the wealthy husband her parents have under negotiation and ruin her family.
Baron Jasper Pendleton has learned love does not exist from suffering his parents' barely civil marriage. He plans to accept the bride his ambitious mother secured, get her with child, and go his own way, confident there is nothing to be had beyond momentary pleasure. But when a masked dancer's passion enflames his frozen heart, will he follow convention or risk everything to take a chance on love?

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I'm not generally a Regency fan, but the characters in this come to life for you.Our heroine, Daphne, starts out as the fairly standard sheltered rich girl, but soon stretches her wings and learns both how sheltered her life really has been, and that life out there isn't as easy as you might think it is! She matures noticeably in the pages of the book. Her gallant love Jasper, who starts out not being quite so gallant, has somewhat the opposite problem. He feels he knows/has does everything and is really just hanging about because it's expected of him. He learns that he's not quite as all knowing as he thinks he is.It's a romance so of course there is a happy ending, but the twists and turns that take you there are definitely worth the read and the bevy of other characters are each richly presented and develop recognizable personalities despite some only showing up for a few pages here and there.Definitely worth the read.
