Cans of soup stretched on for what seemed like miles. Endless shelves of them surrounded him, climbing high up into the sky. Red cans, blue cans, white cans, cans of chicken noodle, cream of mushroom, chili, beef broth, clam chowder… It was an endless world of soup. But unfortunately, soup was the last thing on Michael Mattingly’s mind that day.
His mom looked over the soups, went "hmmmm, picked up a can, looked at it, put it back, went
hmmmm" again, and she seemed to be doing it all in slow motion. Michael watched her with his eyes wide, waiting—just waiting—for her to finish so they could go home. Because in real life he might have been standing by the shopping cart, watching his mom look at soups, but in his mind he was going crazy! In his mind he was running up and down the aisles and jumping all over the big stacks of soda boxes and tearing open all the bags and throwing everything everywhere! Because something was waiting for him at home that he had been waiting for all day. That’s right, from the moment he woke up, all the way through school and through this unexpected trip to the grocery store he had been waiting until the moment when he could sit down in front of his computer.
Why his computer, you ask? Well, technically what Michael was waiting for can be found on a computer or a notebook or even a piece of paper! Michael was waiting to get home so that he could go on an adventure! But not some regular old adventure, because
