Part One - In London

Things were starting to get serious with Christina with each date we went on. The sex aside - and the sex was bloody fantastic - we clicked in perfectly when we were fully clothed and not touching each other and that was a real relief. After the business with my divorce, it was nice to have some of those ill feelings washed away, that the woman I was with wanted to be there, rather than hating the existence - however amicable my divorce ended up, it was still a shock that left me reeling for some time.

We both realised that we had a few days of holiday to spare and so we decided to take some time off together. One night, as we lay naked watching the TV in a lovely post-coital sense of bliss, she mentioned going to the National Portrait Gallery. I told her that I wouldn’t mind having a wander down Charing Cross Road, to check out some of the 2nd hand bookshops and so we decided to go to London.

The day we chose - by luck - was a beautiful day, with a clear blue sky and although it was towards the end of summer - the schools were back, meaning we had less traffic to manoeuvre around on the pavements - it was warm.
