About this ebook

All she wants is to spend the day with her beloved husband. Instead she's going to spend it at the office, another day sacrificed to the toxic reign of The Bastard.

A tongue-in-cheek short story examining the ruinous effects of work-life imbalance.

A clever short story with a unique twist at the end. I did not see that one coming.

Title: A Day at the Office or The BastardAuthor: Jane OldakerPublisher: Smashwords EditionReviewed By: Arlena DeanRating: 5Review:"A Day at the Office or The Bastard" by Jane Oldaker was a short sweet read of this lady's day...'before, during and after work.' This entertaining read was of a woman who wants 'a day with her husband but gets a a day at the office instead with the Bastard.' It was indeed humorous at the end how this author puts in a twist. Wow, she gets to finally come home late due to having to worklate ...however, upon arriving home late dinner is ready and guess who is there with a hug and a cooked meal? Wow, what a surprise ending!

I received this from the author to read and review. This situation is one I or anyone can relate to. An office with a boss who becomes the bastard because he is impossible to work with or for, ever demanding, ever changing what he wants, how he wants it, and when he wants it. All this poor beleaguered employee wants is out, to spend more time with her beloved husband. Finally it is time to go and the day is done. But, wait, a surprise is right there waiting for the reader. In a short story, the author has conveyed many of the same disillusionment and frustration we all feel working, at one time or another. I identified with the poor woman, having worked for bosses such as this one. I too wanted to just chuck it all, go home and relax with my family. Still, like her, I kept plugging away. I loved this story and the messages it brought home to me: things are not always what they seem and people can truly be and act differently depending on the situation.
