    Introduction

You are about to find out how people, particularly people of color are living in the inner cities across America. On the following pages you will read a comprehensive and honest collection of poems describing the lives of African Americans in the inner cities, namely New York City. Followed by an equally honest and hopefully thought provoking prose from someone that has first-hand knowledge of what it is like to grow up in the hood in New York City. I have focused on New York City because that is the machine that runs the world so to speak, and because I grew up there. There are two sides to every story and there are two sides of New York City. I never understood how you could be in one area in New York City one minute and in the space of an half hour you could be in another area of New York City that looks like a third world country. But you can. I know because I was born and raised there.

These are the stories that you will not read in any national news circulations and you will not hear these truths on the news. Yes, some things about the African American community are given some air time, but a lot of what really takes place in the lives of people of color will never see the light of day. New York City would never be revered the way that it is if certain truths were known. The world would view New York, would never view America the same way again. It is my hope that with this e-book I might shed some light on what the media won’t tell you.

There are many stories in the inner cities that need to be told. And though I cannot tell them all I will do my very best to give a voice to a place that has been forgotten.

    INNER CITY BLUES

In the inner cities living conditions are deplorable.

The buildings are dilapidated rat infested tombs.

    The elevators are death traps.
