About this ebook

What is a Quick Prep Sheet?

Basically, it's us doing 99% of the prep work for you. We've taken input from the thousands of people who visit Free-Clep-Prep.com every day and put together a list of the terms and topics you'll need to know for the American Government CLEP. We do the research and then teach what you need to know in an easily digestible way. All you have to bring is your appetite to learn.

We keep these Quick Prep Sheets small on purpose. Almost all of them are under 30 pages/10,000 words and there is no fluff or filler material included. If you're looking for a 200+ page book to read, we've got some great recommendations on our free study guides. If you're a fan of flashcards, crib notes, or study sheets, then you are going to love our Quick Prep Sheets. Aside from a short intro and conclusion, every single word is there for one reason - to help you understand the material and pass your CLEP/DSST.

Keeping it lean and mean also allows us to offer these at a fraction of what others are charging. Don't be put off by the price - Yes, we know it's ridiculously cheap and we're perfectly okay with that. Free-Clep-Prep is here to help you pass exams, not make a fortune. If we succeed at helping you pass, you'll tell others about us. Everyone wins. That's been our strategy for 4+ years now, and it's worked great so far.

These take hundreds of hours to put together, but we're proud of the end result. Give our Quick Prep Sheets a try. You'll be happy you did!

What People Are Saying:

"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Just when I thought it couldn't get any easier with your incredible site! These prep sheets are awesome!" - Susan G.

"My DD used it (Astronomy Quick Prep Sheet) as her only study resource because the subject is one of her favorites. I studied with her by reading the definitions and she answered back with the terms. On the test day, she came out of the room with the biggest smile on her face and said she was so happy she used your guide! Three more credits down!" - Kate L.

"Make more of these study guides please! I have six more tests to take and I don't want to do any of them without one of these!" - Rob L.

"I just wanted to say thanks! We used it in our study group and every person said they were so thankful that we did! We all passed our World Religions test and now we're studying the American Government prep sheet! Thank you so much for your hard work!" - Annie

"I can't believe you sell these so cheaply! I paid more than 4x this price for a book that didn't cover any of the questions on my test. You need to charge more for these but don't do it until I've finished!" - Mike B.

"Your site has helped me so much that I've changed my planned tests to match your practice tests. After using the prep sheet (Introduction to the Modern Middle East DSST Quick Prep Sheet), I just have to say "OMG I want more!" Thanks to your site and this awesome prep sheet I have another three credits!" - Suzanne

American Government CLEP Quick Prep Sheet - Justin Orgeron

Welcome to the Quick Prep Sheet for the American Government CLEP!

You will rarely find a CLEP more feared than the American Government CLEP. This exam has the reputation for being extremely difficult, but I don’t think it’s the subject matter that really gets people. Yes, there is a ton of terms to learn, especially if you are new to politics in the United States. Don’t worry about those, we’ve listed them below. What I think trips up a lot of test-takers is the way this exam asks the questions.

Instead of just giving you a definition and then asking for the proper term, the American Government CLEP will often test your knowledge circumspectly. It may give you a scenario and ask you to apply your knowledge to find the right answer. Or, it may ask you about a famous Supreme Court case, but instead of asking about the final outcome, it will ask you about the events that led to the Supreme Court hearing the case in the first place.

So how do you prepare for this? The same way you do for any exam – Learn the material! We’ve done our best to give you everything you need below. I know it’s a lot, but take your time and go through it all thoroughly. We’ve tried to make it all as clear and comprehensive as possible, but if you get confused on something, do some further research! Then come back when you fully understand the concepts and keep reading.

Remember, I always suggest you use multiple resources for these exams and that advice hasn’t changed. Once you’re done here, go take our free full-length online practice test (http://practice-exams.free-clep-prep.com/login.php) and make sure you have the material down. Bring this Ebook with you to the testing center and use it for some last minute study in the car. Above all, don’t stress out over the exam! You can do this!

With all that out of the way… on to the studying!

    Executive Branch

President – The president of the U.S. can serve only 2 terms of 4 years each (due to the 22nd amendment) and is the head of the executive branch of the government. He can authorize military action (but not declare war) and holds veto power over any law passed by Congress.

Vice President – The vice president is the president of the Senate, and is given the authority to lead discussion in Congress. However, he rarely takes on that duty. Additionally, he is first in line for the president if the president dies, and he can cast a tie-breaking vote for bills in Congress.

Presidential Line of Succession – If the president dies or becomes otherwise unable to do his job, the line of succession is as follows - Vice president, Speaker of the House, President Pro Tempore, Secretary of State, and then other members of the Cabinet.

    Cabinet – The Cabinet
