About this ebook

Ever felt that instant spark when you meet someone you have never seen before? That shot of electricity at the first touch? Or what about an overwhelming sense of déjà vu at a mere glance? No, it’s not love at first sight, but instead it’s the work of a cupid.

Cupids aren’t angels, or the stereotypical cute little cherubs wearing a loincloth and wielding a bow loaded with heart-tipped arrows. Cupids are actually humans, recruited by Heaven for their overwhelming surplus of love within their heart, and gifted with the ability to share a small touch of that love with others—unseen by the human eye as they bring soul-mates together.

But what happens when someone upstairs gets their paperwork mixed up and recruits the wrong person? What happens when the person they recruit has no overflowing amount of love...in fact, they have no love at all within their heart?

Liam is so sick and tired of all the hearts and flowers shit every Valentine’s Day. The build-up to the day...irritating, the actual event...torture. Just for once, he would love to get away from the whole experience. Fate on the other hand has a very sarcastic approach to his plea. An accident at the Heavenly bookkeeping department sees Liam enlisted into the ranks of Creating Unlimited Possibilities Into Destiny...or CUPID for short.

Unable to get a single person to listen to his protests—and teamed with a guy who might actually be cute if he just stopped acting like a kid—he is told to choose his method for deliverance of his love. Liam lets his pissed off attitude choose for him, and revenge on the other cupids becomes his only mission.

This Valentine’s Day, Liam is hunting them down.

I dedicate this story to love. It can make you laugh, make you cry, even bring the strongest of men to their knees. It can be the best feeling in the world, or the worst…but you wouldn’t want to live your life never having experienced it in all its messy, crazy glory.

I would also like to send heartfelt thanks to Jay, my amazingly brilliant editor. Without her push, this little story would have waited a long time to see the light of day. Thank you.

    Chapter One

Oatmeal for breakfast again, the same thing Liam had served himself every morning for as long as he could ever remember. You might think that at thirty-two he’d have gotten sick and tired of the same unsweetened paste every morning for years on end, but no. Liam craved consistency. After rinsing out his bowl and spoon, he ventured into his bedroom. He had exactly one hour left to dress and make it through up-town traffic to work, this was no time to stop and procrastinate.

All his jockeys were folded to perfection, lined up in neat little white rows, while his socks were to the side like little soldiers standing at perfect attention. His suits were also hung with the same care. No wrinkle dared show its face within his walk-in closet. He wouldn’t stand the sight of the imperfection.

Taking out his trademark slate-grey suit with matching dark toned tie hanging over its shoulder, he laid it out on his oak sleigh bed. A quick five-minute timed shower later and after a thorough towel rub over his short ebony hair, Liam was ready to dress himself for the day.

Mother of pearl cufflinks in place, black leather shoes polished to a gleam, and he was done. With a small smile of self-satisfaction gracing his lips, Liam grabbed his car keys from their hook on the hallway stand by the front door, his travel mug of strong black coffee, and set out. Nothing pleased him more than knowing that everything had a place, and there was a place for everything. He incorporated that ideal into every part of his life. He had no time for anything frivolous, no patience for the ridiculous little rituals that seemed to explode all around him and threatened to disturb the perfect existence he had created for himself.

Take football, for example. A bunch of sweaty, filthy men running all over a small field, all trying to cause as much damage to the each other as possible…and all over a small oval ball? He couldn’t fathom the need the average male seemed to exhibit toward the game. Complete and utter chaos!

Now what about golf? That was a completely different story. That was a game he actually understood—a true gentleman’s sport. Smooth flowing economical movements, the analytical areas of the brain engaging as the angle, wind speed and direction, as well as the topography of the course, were all measured and calculated within the quiet of the mind. Not to mention that it could all done without the need of sweat or mud invading every crevice of the body. What more could a person ask for in a recreational activity? With no one else controlling his performance, Liam could concentrate on perfecting his form, knowing that if he achieved a poor result, it was his own fault. Failure
