About this ebook

If asked to describe herself in three words, Emily Lassiter would say dry, barren land. The characters in her bestselling books get more action than she does. Creating fantasy worlds leaves her craving the feel of a man's body. Her only problem? The verbal vomit of an emotionally abusive ex-husband has left Emily's self-confidence smaller than a G-string on a gnat.

Her friend's solution? The Pipe Cleaners —a male escort service and guaranteed ego boost.

If asked to describe his patience in three words, Sebastian Chambers would say depleted, finished, done. Waiting for Emily to realize the depths of his affections leaves him with a permanent case of blue balls. As her financial adviser, his job is to ensure no one takes advantage of his shy little author. When charges for an escort service appear on her statements, he hears her silent cry and takes matters into his own hands.

His challenge? Convincing Emily to leave her past behind.

    Chapter One

Scout slammed the door so hard the decorative plates hanging on the wall rattled. Sadie, you know you can’t run from me. I’ll follow you to the ends of the world.

Huge crocodile tears left black trails of mascara streaking her cheeks as Sadie crumbled before his eyes.

I just couldn’t live with myself if anything happened to you because of me. She threw herself into his arms, and he held her tight as sobs shook her body. I love you, Scout. And that’s why I have to go.

Son of a bitch. Is that the best you can come up with? The angry words jolted Emily Lassiter from her work. As she looked around, she realized she was the one who spoke them. Ha, now I’m talking to myself.

She searched her office in hopes that inspiration would somehow find her in the hot, cramped room. Instead, her attention fell on the darkness outside her window. How long had she sat in this spot, struggling to put words into sentences? Her mind lingered in her characters’ world until her body made its presence known. The kinks in her shoulders told her she needed to give into another endless bout of writer’s block and pull herself from the storyline induced coma. The rumble in her stomach said she needed food, but damn if she had much of an appetite.

Six years ago, she’d achieved her lifelong goal of becoming a writer when she published her first novel, but her success had come with a steep price. Over the last two years, the sparkle and shine of her dream career had diminished, and the fun had become more of a chore than an adventure. She’d found herself divorced, discouraged, and depressed, but the only person who could change any of that was her.

Change. That one word excited her and gave her hope of escape. Escape from her boring, dreary life. Escape toward fulfillment, even if it was only a temporary fling.

Earlier in the week, Emily had delivered papers to her investment adviser’s office, and his secretary, Clara, had insisted on taking her to lunch. Over grilled chicken Caesar salads, Emmy’s friend suggested she try MakeMyDate.com.

Seriously, Emily, you know an orgasm or two would definitely put some spark into your life. Oblivious to the volume of her voice and the shocked faces turning to stare, Clara shook the linen napkin and pressed it to the corner of her mouth. And the best kind of man to fuck comes with no strings attached. You can find just that on the dating site.

Heat rose in Emily’s cheeks, and her eyes focused on the tablecloth. Uh, I, um . . . She pursed her lips and blew out a sharp breath. A stranger? Damn it, Clara, you know that’s not me. Her fingers rubbed invisible wrinkles from the lace. "I have a hard enough time even speaking to Chambers."

Ha! Clara’s harsh snicker caught the attention of nearby patrons. And I’ve been telling you for months, but you just won’t listen. Snap those fingers and that man is yours. Clara’s crude purr drew Emily’s eyes up from the table in time to see Clara run her tongue across her lips. If I didn’t have a husband waiting for me at home, I’d attack that man every damn day.

Emily gasped, but she would be lying if she told herself she had no interest in the man. What she lacked was the courage to act on it, and nothing Clara said that day convinced Emily to make a move on him.

Sebastian may be your financial planner, but he’s also a man. I’ve seen the way he looks at you. Clara’s eyes narrowed, and her lips turned up in a sly smile. Did you know he always slips off for a little while after you’ve been in his office? And by always, I mean. Every. Single. Time. And I don’t think he’s playing Tiddlywinks, either. Her brows wiggled up and down in the same crass manner Clara was notorious for.

Give it up, Clara. No way, no how, not gonna do it.

Emily always ignored Chambers’ hot, lusty looks, and attempted to keep their transactions strictly business. Prim and proper described her behavior to a T. In her world, men pursued women, not the other way around. After all, what if he rejected her? She wasn’t sure her fragile, troubled mind could overcome that again.

In the time since Emily’s divorce, loneliness was her bedfellow and her only action came with batteries attached. She’d lost count of the number of ways she had fantasized about being taken by Chambers. His frequent visits to her dreams would have to suffice for now because Emmy had no plans to act on those desires other than writing them into a sex scene or two for a character.

The very thought of Chambers would keep her from writing any more tonight, so she saved her files and carried her laptop to her room. After thinking long and hard (and time spent giggling about thoughts of long and hard), she decided it was past time for her to do something about her own wants and needs. She was tired of taking matters into her own hands, so to speak, so maybe it was time to look for alternatives and find a solution.

Laid back on her bed, trusty vibrator waiting on the blanket beside her, she flipped through late night programming and settled on a music station. Heaving a deep sigh of frustration, she logged into the dating site where Clara had pressured her into creating a profile. The flashing number six beside her inbox shocked Emily.

Hmm . . . Maybe Clara was right. I could use some anonymous sex right about now.

Excitement rushed through her, and she clicked page after page filled with profiles of available men, hoping to find a man to fuck her senseless. Her toughest decision would be to choose where they would meet. A beautiful Southern beach made perfect sense. The Florida Keys were only a short flight from her hometown of Savannah. Charleston was a short trip north. Even the panhandle of Florida would work as long as a hot man waited at the end.

Never once had she considered the drastic step of meeting a stranger for sex. But she was a woman, and she had needs that she was no longer able to fulfill on her own. Taking care of it seemed much simpler than she would have imagined.

The dating site guaranteed complete confidentiality, and the website claimed all charges would be billed under a dummy company called The Pipe Cleaners. No way would Chambers figure out her plans, and besides, weeks would pass before he saw the charges on
