Masonic Readings and Recitations - William Harvey

    PREFACE

The suggestion to prepare a collection of Masonic Readings and Recitations has often occurred to me during Harmony. The Merry Mason may be safely depended upon to provide a good programme, but all who have given a moment’s thought to the matter, must have been struck with the amazing paucity of items that directly bore upon the Craft. An examination of the following pages will show that there are many pieces scattered throughout Masonic literature that are excellently suited for reading or recitation. My aim in making this collection is to bring within the reach of Brethren a choice variety of items from which he may draw when asked to contribute something to sustain a programme. I am much indebted to Bro. Rudyard Kipling, and his publishers, and to Bro. Neil Munro for permission to include their poems in my volume. To these and to all others who have assisted me in matters of copyright or otherwise I tender hearty thanks.
