Most people think of sun, sand, and endless parties when they hear the word 'Caribbean'. In some cases all of that's true, which is why the Caribbean islands remain one of the premier destinations for sun worshippers and party goers worldwide. Here's a not so hidden secret though: the history of the Caribbean is much darker than many people realize.

The islands of the Caribbean became prized possessions during the age of exploration. Some, such as Trinidad, could act as a launching pad for further journeys into South America, while others were sought after for their fertile soil. Many plantations sprung up to take full advantage of profitable crops such as coffee and cacao. However, the colonial masters certainly weren't going to undertake the grueling labor themselves.

Thus the often violent and bloody slave trade began. Any reputable history text will tell of the suffering faced by many slaves at the hands of their masters, who were perfectly willing to sacrifice human rights in the name of greed. As if that wasn't enough, entire islands often changed hands when wars were fought between European invaders. As one can imagine, losses were incurred on both sides.

What does that have to do with the Caribbean of today? If you're a paranormal enthusiast: everything. Even a novice knows that places with violent and tragic histories are often breeding grounds for paranormal activity. Negative energy tends to build up and, with nowhere for it to go, the location often becomes a hub for ghostly activities. There's no shortage of such areas in the Caribbean.

Thatb s why he started looking into the stories in the first place. He got tired of hearing them and decided to do something about it. He reasoned that the best way to shut people up was to show them how wrong they were. Itb s never worked before but hey, thereb s always a first time. But something happened that Damien hadnb t been expecting. He anticipated laughter, some of it raucous, but the stories started drawing him in. The more he read, the more he began to think that there might be something to a few of them after all. Damien still doesnb t believe in alien abductions and what he terms b other far out BSb , but heb s willing to admit that some of the cases are pretty strange. Heb s happy to let others ferret out the mystery, but he has been keeping an extra eye on his electronic equipment when he goes out fishing lately. And heb s a lot more tolerant of newbies and their stories, even providing additional details on occasion. Heb s finally decided to share some of his burgeoning expertise with the rest of us, if only to get away from the constant urgings of his eldest son.

An interesting little book. Some really cool places in the Caribbean worth seeing if you like ghosts. I love ghosts. Lived with a few off and on. They don't bother me. It's a fascinating subject that science really needs to explore more diligently. Just saying if science is exploring the unexplored than why not explore ghosts. You never know what you might discover. I say if you can afford to go to the Caribbean then this book gives you a starting point.
