About this ebook
The Seraphs Call
It starts as a clandestine military program. On its face, the experiment creates a black-ops team of super soldiers known as Long-Reach. Aided by cutting edge cybernetic and adaptive nanotechnology they are meant to be undetectable and unstoppable, relentless tools that will put the United States back on top as the leader throughout the world.
The man known as the Director has deeper and more far-reaching plans. The experiments being conducted under the guise of the Long-Reach program are only the beginning. With power reaching to the highest levels of the U.S. government, he plots an endgame. Its final objective to create a weapon that is so adaptable, pervasive and deadly that it will allow him to gain a hold on every living soul on the planet.
Gabriel Scott, a child prodigy afflicted with Asperger’s syndrome, develops a nanotech computer to order the universe of Cyberspace. With unlimited applications, including manipulation of human existence on a molecular level, the technology is dangerous in altruistic hands. In the wrong hands, Angel is the perfect foundation, on which the Director can build his weapon.
Gabriel’s mother, Colonel Dar Theresa Rathborn, is the most decorated member of the Marine Corps to be shaped by a failed war with China. When she is ordered to assassinate a billionaire drug dealer by the President of the United States, she fulfills her duty without hesitation. Little does she know that fulfilling that order, will be used as a tool by the Director, to bring about the downfall of a President.
A Son and Mother are entrapped by the plans of a powerful man bent on recreating a world. One will be used to wage the Director’s war through Science. The other will be forced to build the Director’s machine for war. Both will be used as leverage against each other, unless they can find a path of escape and save the last hope of independence for all humankind.

Chapter 1
White House 2028JUN21 0600hrs Tango
'Flags, around the nation, stand at half mast. For the fifth straight day, President Kemper mourns over the loss of his only daughter Ashley Kemper. The first daughter died in a seeming drug overdose early Friday. FBI and DOJ criminal investigations continue. Vice President Porter has handled the day-to-day operations of the White House, but news reporters could not reach him for comment except to receive form-letter platitudes about respecting the family and office in their time of grieving.'
God I hate that smug bitch.
Vice President Porter hurled a letter opener from the Oval Office desk at the flickering screen. Porter was an average seedy politician of the beltway, thinning hair, fifties, with a slight roll on his belly that he tried to hide with an expertly tailored suit. But at least we have our fifteen minutes of fame in case the old man keels over from a bum ticker.
Which he may do sooner than later...
The man known to Porter as the Director
stood behind him watching. His stance was military erect. His sinewy form fitted flawlessly to his dark suit, his brown hair combed like a lion's mane crimped just above his white lapel. Even so, his most impressive features were his unsettling eyes, a blue like glacier ice. All is going according to plan.
You did well setting up that stupid kid of his with the hot dose of Heroin.
The older man reached inside his jacket pocket and recovered a plain envelope. Here is your access code to the offshore account you wanted for the operational funding.
We'll be ready as soon as we pick up Colonel Rathborn for the teams.
It had better,
Porter snapped. His eyes narrowed, fingers tapping on the desk. If this falls apart into some cluster fuck I can kiss my reelection good-bye...
Porter forced a smile waggling his finger at the Director. ...and nobody in their right mind touches you for Political office, Sterling Washington pedigree or not.
You're fishing for my true identity again,
the Director smiled, his lips twitching. He lowered his chin to look down at the other man studying him with cold eyes …endearing if it wasn't so dangerous.
Wasn’t so dangerous, um?
The Vice President feigned a stern scowl, but he could not keep his lower lip from quivering. The contracting furrows across his forehead and slight enlargement of his eyes betrayed a glimmer of anxiety. Is that a threat?
No it implies that what I do for this country makes me the sworn enemy of some powerful people.
The Director's voice was steady, a subdued rasp, and his expression stony. It's safer for you that you don't know who I am.
Won't I find out anyway?
Porter shrugged his shoulders and spread his hands in a pleading gesture, ...whenever I become President?
There are some security clearances that are 'need to know' even for you Mr. Vice President.
The Director crossed his arms and glanced down at a Swiss crafted chronometer timepiece. "You're lucky that our
