About this ebook
A dark coming-of-age story set in post-apocalyptic America.
Life in economically and socially collapsed America has taught 14-year-old Sunni Brown more than a few tough lessons 1) Life sucks,2) People suck too, and 3) You can't trust your own flesh and blood relatives even if your ability to keep breathing, eating and living depends on them.
Sunni's move to New Hope City, a town known more for its former glory than its current corruption, is supposed to give her a fresh start. But like so many things in Sunni's life, her fresh start is soiled by those seeking to exploit her. Corrupt cops. Ruthless gangsters. Ambitious youth with dreams of ill-gotten fortunes. They all seek to lift themselves at Sunni's expense. It's only Sunni's street smarts and a strong distrust of people that keeps her one step ahead. But not without a cost. Something is brewing inside her -- a bit of hate, a touch of rage and a large dose of righteous indignation. For Sunni, life in New Hope City is filled with injustice that she's powerless to fight. But when she crosses paths with a disillusioned cop, will her growing outrage and his desire to change a rotten city transform her from helpless victim to vigilante outlaw?

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Sunni Brown is one of many prostitutes in New Hope City that doesn't have a chance of getting free. Sunni's mother abandons her leaving Sunni with no place to live and in trouble with the law. Everyone praises The Captain for protecting everyone but there is a darker side to The Captain. Tony Gavilan is police officer whose death was unexpected and tragic. Tony gives Sunni a place to live and tries to figure out who is killing prostitutes. Jin appears to like Sunni but Sunni is unsure of who he means to her. Will Sunni get free? Can Tony stop The Captain? Whose killing the prostitutes? Your answers await you in New Hope City.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5So, I don't know where to start. The story was good, polemic, but definitely interesting, and something that is a real problem. It took me a little while to want to keep reading, the beginning was slow. It also had some unexpected turns. But the amount of grammatical and spelling errors were too many, uncomfortable to read.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I thought that New Hope City was very good. Not particularly well written, as it had a bunch of errors (grammar, spelling, and names); however, the storyline was very compelling. One of the other reviewers said this book was not for adults but for children, and I completely disagree. The themes from this book include the child sex trade and police corruption. It is a very dark story with content most children shouldn't be reading, at least not in such an emotionally written way. Also, even though this book is part of a series, this single book doesn't have the happy ending other YA distopian novels do, it has a much darker ending. And, while the series might conclude more optimistically, until the other books are written, this one is a downer.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5great book
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5This story is definitely for children and not adults. The concept I liked and the descriptions of how the apocalypse came about were not too detailed and would keep a childs attention, but definely not an adults. Children may like the beginning of the story, but the copy I received was only a part of a story. In my opinion, there was no conclusion only the ending of a chapter and had I bought this, the way I received it, I would be returning it for a full refund, esp. since the person makes a living doing freelance writing.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5thankyou!! background given so i have 1/2 a chance...Wow that was different. Left my wanting to turn another page. And when that happens i am excited. Nice not to have to plough thru all the beautiful people smooching!! even though this is fiction it reads like it could really happen but hopefully not in my lifetime.carmenmaranda
