About this ebook

What does the Bible have to say about the Beard? Is it just a matter of opinion? Author, teacher, and historian Michael Bunker wanted to know, so over many years he studied everything he could find on the topic, even reading through copious volumes of ancient commentaries and writings by early Christians. Having written on the topic a few times over the years, Michael commonly receives questions from people from all over the world, and from many different faiths and backgrounds, and, unable to find any books or tracts that dealt with the issue from a Biblical perspective, Michael decided to make this tract available in print form.

This 72 page booklet examines the topic, examining the scriptures, types and shadows of sin and righteousness, historical evidence and practices, and the writings of many different people throughout history. It is offered for the benefit of anyone who seeks a deeper and more Biblical understanding of the topic.

    Introduction

Many years ago, when I first determined that I wanted to know the truth about what God thought about the beard, I had great difficulty in finding any Christian works published on the subject. Due to the lateness of the hour, the darkness of the culture and the world around us, the general trend of worldliness and conformity, and the desire by most ministers, churches, and denominations to pander to the flesh of worldly professors, finding any work on practical and godly living (orthopraxy) can be most difficult. There were a handful of online sites that had bits and pieces of articles and the occasional sermon on the subject, but these were often superficial or quick and cursory examinations of the subject, usually written by someone with a prior agenda to push or some territory to mark. To this day, I have been unable to find any printed books or tracts on the subject of The Beard from a biblical standpoint.

I wrote most of what follows in 2008, although I had been teaching and commenting on the subject for years prior to that. When I initially embarked on studying the subject, I determined within myself that I would not look into this doctrine with any pre-conceived opinions or notions. I know how difficult that sounds, and if it sounds difficult, it is even more difficult in practice. In truth, I absolutely wanted to know what my Creator thought about the subject, and although I am of the doctrinal position that holds that nothing a man can do can in any way earn him the love or acceptance of God, and I absolutely deny that men can, by any works they may do, deserve or earn salvation, I still believe that obeying God and seeking to honor and glorify Him in all we do is my absolute obligation and duty. I also believe that obeying God ought to be because we love Him, and desire to see His ways, words, and will magnified in all of the earth.

This tract is the result of my own investigation into the Doctrine of the Beard. I must
