    Images

    by Jeffrey Park

    Photographs crowd

    every perpendicular

    surface, a thousand tiny windows

    into other lives

    and others’ experiences

    a confusion

of vivid goldfish bowls, each one

    so sincere

    promising its own story.

    Be careful not

to ask, give no sign of interest –

    and when you leave

you’ll try hard not to blink

    and wish the afterimages

    far away.

    Terry Coal Road

    by Jacqueline Platt

    Dukes of Hazard,

    yeah, that was us.

    Lil’ green Nissan,

    oh, what a rush!

    Road sign taken,

    same owned by three.

    Meant everything,

    to not just me.

    Headed South to,

    go run away.

    Not knowing I’d,

    find me and stay.

    Who’d a thought on,

    Terry Coal Road.

    Whiskey and shells,

    loaded and fun.

    Rebel yell from,

    my redneck girl.

    Filled my heart with,

    her country world.

    Headed South to,

    go run away.

    Not knowing I’d,

    find me and stay.

    Who’d a thought on,

    Terry Coal Road.

    And when they sold,

    her daddy’s farm.

    She broke right down,

    into our arms.

    The two of us,

    picked her back up.

    Unlike that Deed,

    can’t tear us up.

    Once In A Blue Moon

    by Jacqueline Platt

    Under the blue moon,

    the world heard me cry.

    You left me too soon,

    never said good-bye.

    My tears rained down hard,

    in that clear still night.

    Holding a sad card,

    my face ghostly white.

    I tell them I’m fine.

    But my broken smile,

    and red eyes don’t lie.

    I’m just not ready,

    to tell you good-bye.

    I try to pretend,

    the pain isn’t there.

    I go out with friends,

    drink away my cares.

    Only what I need,

    isn’t in
