About this ebook

Officer Joshua Dabbs and his husband, lawyer Garrison Williams, met while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps ten years ago. Their lives are very different now than from when they first started dating: they're out of the Corps and the closet, they're married and own a house, and they're getting ready to adopt two kids through the state. Josh figures their life is pretty much perfect.

When their friends challenge them to run in the annual Marine Corps Marathon, they find themselves back in D.C. and visiting their old stomping grounds around Quantico. Garrison and Josh enter a friendly competition to see who finishes the marathon first.

    Author's Note

Josh and Garrison are two of my favorite characters to write: former Marines, one a cop, the other a lawyer, both reserved but so obviously in love. Competition is fifth in the Courting Series, but can be read as a stand-alone story. I originally wrote this for Torquere Press' Charity Sips Blitz 2011, where all author proceeds were matched by Torquere and donated to the It Gets Better Project (for more information on the Project, visit: http://www.itgetsbetter.org/). I hope you enjoy Competition, and check out the other stories in the Courting Series, also available from SmashWords at https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/jrocci:

Most days after a long shift, Josh just wants to get home as quickly as possible so he can kick back on his couch with a cold beer and Garrison stretched out next to him with the dogs. Being a police officer in a small Vermont town definitely doesn't mean less work than if he was at a metropolitan department. If anything, Josh has more duties across a wider area of responsibility, including community outreach events like the one he just survived at a local middle school.

So, Roby, his patrol partner, says thoughtfully as they settle back in their SUV. Are we supposed to be making note of the ones who asked the most morbid questions for future reference, or is that just a general kid thing?

Josh sighs and rubs a hand across
