My writing varies from fiction to commentary and lately reviews on various media (books, movies, TV). Most of my fiction work is short stories in the genre of horror/thriller but I am working on an apocalyptic type of novel as well. My favourite writers include Tom Holland, Stephen King, Anne Rice, Poppy Z Brite and Dean Koontz.

    Chapter 1- The Night

    Do you love me?

    Yes.

    Will you love me after?

    Until the star dies.

The setting sun cast the abandoned gas station and surrounding desert in shades of orange and red. Dom pulled on a pair of purple latex gloves and wrapped black electrical tape around his wrists to keep them from slipping off.  I smirked at the cheery colour contrasting against his black clothes– They seem thin; they'll tear if she struggles.

Dom saw me looking at his hands and knew what I was thinking. They won’t tear, get ready.

I leaned against the dirty ’77 black Charger and absently puffed on the filter of my smoke and made no move to do as he commanded.  The hot desert wind blew my messy hair about and obscured my vision with strands of ebony.  I knew I needed to gear up but I couldn’t stop looking at his lilac hands.

Dani, Danielle. Get ready.  He held out another pair of gloves and the tape.

He wasn’t impatient, just concerned that I wasn’t up to the task.  Understandable, considering I had never killed anyone before and if things were different I could very well have been the girl in the trunk. I should have pitied her or tried to help her but Dom wanted this and I loved him and couldn’t deny his desires.

The sun disappeared; the red and orange sky had turned to dark purple as I finished taping the gloves to my wrists.  The last trace of humanity passed 45 minutes before as we dozed in the backseat and waited for the right time to start.  Only a local to the area would have found it strange for a car to be parked at a gas station that hadn’t been open for 7 years and even then, no one was likely to care or stop.

We came here the first time a month or so ago. Dom picked it out and said it would be perfect because of the isolation and for the clean-up after we were done with the girl. Like most gas stations, from my limited knowledge, a manhole covered an underground gas pit beside the station and away from the derelict pumps. Dom had pulled up the lid and checked the levels with a discarded gas stick. There was about a gallon of fuel still in the hole. A single match, maybe even a spark from a cigarette, would be enough to ignite it and possibly burn hot enough to cause an explosion if there was still gas in the pumps. Being all the way out here it may even burn long enough to destroy the building and any evidence of our deeds.

Thump, thump. The girl in the trunk. The noise brought me back to myself.  The girl, Amber, was hitting the top of the trunk, probably with the idea that she could alert someone that she was in there.  She must have thought we left
