About this ebook
Overwhelmed with the pressure of being an emergency room doctor and distraught over a bad day, Chloe Daniels summons a demon to punish her for the loss of life at her hands. She expects a grotesque and evil being. What she gets is a hot blooded, sensual man who sees her for the good person she truly is.
Ballan, her demon, doles out the type of punishment he feels is required. With a table full of random kitchen items masking as sex toys, he shows her that not every situation is under her control. He uses deliciously wicked and depraved sex to drive this point home.
At the conclusion of their encounter, Chloe doesn’t feel abused. She feels sated and happy. It is impossible to deny that their connection goes way beyond mere sex. She realizes she could love this man. But as his nature attests, Ballan has darker secrets lurking. Can she learn to accept Ballan and the danger that comes with him? Or is the reality too frightening for her to handle?

DEDICATION
I would like to dedicate this story to Brittany Landfair. The two of us had a very fun car ride trying to come up with inventive props for Ballan in this story. Her suggestion will never allow me to look at a whisk in the same way ever again.

Prologue
I’m losing him!
Chloe Daniels hollered toward her nurses, desperate for a magical cure that could stop the man beneath her hands from bleeding out. Despite her frantic words, her hands were steady as she applied pressure to a gash in the man’s neck.
Her unfortunate patient had been on a camping trip with his family. The story relayed to the paramedics by his tearful wife was that he’d slipped on a wet dock while night fishing. The lantern in his hand had shattered, driving the glass into his throat as he fell.
It had taken an ambulance twenty minutes to get to their remote location and twenty minutes to return to the hospital. Forty minutes. He’d been bleeding for forty minutes. He hadn’t hit any major arteries, but forty minutes was a damn long time for anyone to be steadily bleeding.
The ambulance drivers had done the best they could, but by the time the man was placed on her table, he’d been as good as dead. She’d known it deep in her heart, but that hadn’t stopped her from trying to revive him. She was a doctor. It was her job to save lives, even those that seemed too far gone. We need to get the rest of the glass out of these wounds so I can stitch him up,
she ordered one of the nurses.
The girl bobbed her head, fumbling momentarily with the needed tools, which were already slick with blood.
The second nurse, Gabriel, was working on a transfusion, attempting to pump more blood back into the man even as he continued to bleed. He glanced at the machine monitoring the man’s heart and shook his head. He’s been gone for a good ten minutes. I think you should call it.
They both knew it wasn’t his call to make, so he continued with his assignment, feeding AB positive into the dying man’s body until Chloe gave him the official command to stop.
Chloe had already shocked the man once with the paddles. It had brought him back for a fleeting moment before his pulse winked back out. She’d ordered one of her nurses to manually pump his heart while she worked on the worst of the wounds.
Blood was caked up to her elbows, and yet the man still bled. Gabriel wasn’t getting fluids into him fast enough. Every time Hannah, her other nurse, stopped to assist her, their patient’s heart stopped beating. Without assistance, his body wasn’t working. He’d shut down long before they’d gotten their hands on him.
Taking a step back, she stood frozen with her bloody hands held in front of her and stared down at the dead man whose life she was supposed to officially count as lost. She hated this part. And she’d had to do it more than once today. I…
Gabriel’s expression was sympathetic. Sighing, he rubbed his forearm along his brow in an attempt to avoid blood getting on his face. It’s over, Chloe. Call it.
Numbly, she nodded. She’d lost another one in far too short a time. He’s gone,
she admitted softly. Gabriel extended a hand toward her shoulder, but she ducked out of his grasp. I’m fine,
she said defensively.
He nodded and thankfully didn’t press the issue. I’ll go speak with the family.
Chloe looked up in surprise. That was usually her job, but apparently her co-worker could tell she’d been pushed to her limits today. Okay,
she relented. Thank you.
Don’t mention it.
His gray eyes searched her face for a moment before he added, Go home. Get some rest. You’ve earned it.
She made a sarcastic sound in the back of her throat. How could she be expected to go home and relax knowing three people would never be able to do that again? Three people would never get to curl up on the couch with their loved ones and watch a movie. They’d never get to enjoy a bowl of popcorn or down a can of Coke. They were gone forever. And all of it had happened on her watch.
Chapter One
Chloe had long passed up distressed and was edging on hysterical. Tears streamed down her cheeks. She grabbed fistfuls of her long blonde hair and screamed her frustration into her living room, taking small comfort as the sound reverberated off the walls.
She’d hit her breaking point a few hours ago, but didn’t have the opportunity to fall apart until now. She was a doctor, and a damn good one, but after years of working in emergency rooms, she’d witnessed more death than any person
