My family and I live in Arkansas where we are owned by two cats with masters in relaxation (Dogs have Masters, cats have Staff-LOL) and a tiny Chihuahua who thinks she's a watchdog and has a long list of stuff to bark at. My current Work in Progress is another cozy mystery in the Maryvale series. I love meeting new reading and writing friends so please visit my page and blog and leave a comment. Happy reading, Jackie

CHRISTMAS TREK: A family adventure in outer space.
CHRISTMAS TREK takes place in 3003 when Big Boyz, a global conglomerate, has polluted the environment to a toxic level except in protected pockets. In spite of tight controls, the oppressed majority has finally completed an escape plan which has taken years to perfect. They leave in an armada of space ships, the timing and security depending on where on earth the departure locations are. Their goal is a human-friendly planet in another galaxy. The lead characters are: Odie, a ten year old boy; Joey, his four year old brother; Annie Nichols, the ten year old girl down the street, and their families. Their adventures in the space ship getting to the new planet and a remnant of a tribe of carnivorous humanoids are frightening, but the new home planet has their history, tools, and the trek is well planned for their comfort and survival. The ships are a veritable fleet of Noah's arks with seed, sperm, and live animals as well as their history and everything they could bring with them to colonize their new home. In addition, when they arrive, the new planet has two suns and all sorts of wonderful things and places to explore. However, it is not very long before Odie and Annie's adventures which include a confrontation with one of the hostile humanoids, prove to them that being ten years old in their new home is as much of a thrilling adventure as it was on the polluted earth – only better!
CHRISTMAS TREK
It was the night before Christmas, but nobody celebrated Christmas any more except in stealthy, small groups of trusted friends. The third millennium Political World Order recognized only political holidays and had reverted back to pagan celebrations of spring and harvest time. And this was only allowed because it was one more way to encourage the people who grew food and performed other necessary services to work hard while existing at near slavery living conditions.
What was once the British Isles, North, South and Central America, and the rest of Earth, and contained what was left of its population, survived precariously. North America included the former United States, Canada and Mexico but countries below Mexico were much exploited territories as were other fragments of survivor groups. The few attempts at rebellion by the vast population had been put down easily by the rich and powerful World Order who kept an iron grip on them through the scientific devices they had developed for that purpose.
In spite of their strict precautions, the churches and religions of all kinds from Buddha on through the Christian denominations and Wicca were still alive under cover functioning, and planning that very rebellion the World Order so dreaded.

Odie and Joey, his little brother, stand in the door of their home in the domed city staring into the dark. Shhhh! I thought I heard something? Guess it was just the wind.
Odie whispered.
Eyes wide, Joey, stood silently, holding his big brother’s hand. Odie was almost ten years old but he was scared too as he faced the dark night. Their yard sure looked different without sunshine. The two of them just stood there another minute, looking at how strange and silent everything seemed.
With a sigh, Odie took a deep breath and let go of Joey's hand long enough to close the door of their house behind them. He took Joey's hand again, firmly this time. Joey was four and held his bear, Paws, with his other hand.
Let's go.
They began to walk.
Quietly, hand in hand, they went up their front walk toward the sidewalk, eyes on the streetlight ahead.
Odie, I 'fraid.
It's okay, Joey. Uh-oh?
Odie stopped. Joey held tight to his hand. Someone was running toward them.
Oh,
Odie let out the breath he'd been holding. It's just that neighborhood pest, Annie.
Annie stopped beside them. She glanced from them to the dark house behind them, hands on her hips. I know where you're going.
No, you don't.
Odie winced as if he hurt somewhere.
Do too.
Okay. Where, smarty?
You're going to the meeting place, aren't you? I know where it is, I was going there too when I saw you and Joey come out.
Annie's face got serious. I bet we're going to leave really soon now. No one will know of course till we're ready, but I'll bet it's soon.
Soon?
Joey echoed looking from Annie to Odie.
Go home, Annie, you're a girl.
Odie looked around them, eyes searching the shadows. And it's dark.
Well! I know it's dark! Duh! You and Joey shouldn't be out either.
She tossed her head, red bangs dancing around her face. And I'm older than you, I'll be ten next week. We might leave on my birthday!
She skipped around Odie and ruffled Joey's hair.
Leave?
Joey hugged Paws closer.
