About this ebook

Only public-domain hymns were included in this collection, so you won't find hymns like "How Great Thou Art" in the volume, because they are still under copyright.

Features:
1. Approximately one-third of the hymns include links to YouTube(TM) video presentations of people singing the hymn or performing its instrumental music; tap their links to view if an online connection is present. (Some of the links may no longer be operational; that is out of the compiler's control.) Enjoy the songs or use them to learn an unfamiliar hymn.

2. Many of the hymns also include definitions of some of the old English words that may be obscure today or had different meanings than they do today. (For instance, "Aye" does not mean "yes," but "always.")

3. Several of the hymns include scripture references, linking lines in the hymns to possible passages in Scripture that may have inspired the line. Alas, you’ll need to look up the passages yourself in a Bible.

    A debtor to mercy alone

    Augustus Montague Toplady

    A debtor to mercy alone,

    Of covenant mercy I sing,

    Nor fear, with God's righteousness on,

    My person and off'rings to bring.

    The terrors of law and of God

    With me can have nothing to do;

    My Savior's obedience and blood

    Hides all my transgressions from view.

    The work which His goodness began,

    The arm of His strength will complete;

    His promise is Yea and Amen,

    And never was forfeited yet.

    Things future, nor things that are now,

    Not all things below or above,

    Can make Him His purpose forego,

    Or sever my soul from His love.

    My name from the palms of His hands

    Eternity will not erase;

    Imprest on His heart, it remains

    In marks of indelible grace.

    Yes! I to the end shall endure,

    As sure as the earnest is giv'n;

    More happy, but not more secure,

    When all earthly ties have been riv'n.

    Definitions

    Yea = affirmative vote

    Amen = hearty approval

    earnest = pledge; token of what is to come

    imprest = to produce a mark by pressure

    indelible = cannot be erased

    riv'n = to tear apart or into pieces; past tense of rend
