About this ebook
In its history, Windswept Plantation has been many things to many people. To the Jamison family, it has been the ancestral home since 1830. To historian Barrett Browning, it is a repository of correspondence, journals, and stories which can lead to publications, promotions, and success in her academic career. To venture capitalist Davis Jamison, all these documents are a pain in the neck, since he must preserve them for history while guarding his heritage. To Davis’s cousin Lloyd, the papers hold a horrible secret, the revelation of which will ruin them all.
Historian Barrett wants to bare the facts--all of them--to the light of day. Falling in love with the owner of the documents is not in her plans. Davis wants to solve the family mystery while protecting its good name. His cousin’s desperate fixation on hiding secrets and Davis’s intense attraction to Barrett both surprise him.
A secret will out, however, and it’s found in the journal of the first Jamison plantation mistress. Hiding the truth brings Barrett to a difficult choice: success with her career or a life with Davis. Revealing the truth brings Davis to an equally hard decision: ruin the family reputation or risk all to have Barrett forever.

Hi, I’m Ann Macela, and I write enchanting, smart, and sensual contemporary romance and contemporary light paranormal romance. Sometimes with a touch of humor, sometimes with a little sorrow, always with passion and emotion. My award-winning Magic Series is about a group of people who can cast spells to help them with their everyday jobs. Wouldn’t you like to have an ability that would help you type faster, make accurate change, fix the plumbing, or grow flowers and vegetables? Or whatever it is that you do? And these people, who call themselves practitioners, are guaranteed to find their soul mates. Ready or not, and whether or not they want one at that particular moment. As the series progresses, the magic gets more complicated and so do the relationships. Included in the series are the last two in the series, never before published. Windswept won the Romantic Times Reviewers’ Choice Award for Best Romance, Small Press, 2008, and several other awards. Writing this standalone contemporary with a historical twist took me back to my first love, the study of history, and it definitely shows off my Texas roots. There’s a terrible secret in the papers of the Windswept Plantation . . . I’m a native Gulf Coast Texan, now living in The Frozen North of Chicagoland. I started life reading mysteries, then sci-fi and fantasy. When I discovered romances, I saw a way to combine all the aspects of books that I liked into my own stories. And what a welcome difference from writing computer manuals--my old job and which has no magic about it at all. Let me know what you think of my stories. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Dr. Barrett Browning, a history professor seeking tenure, is given the opportunity to have exclusive access to the Jamison family papers from the Windswept Plantation in Louisana, their ancestral home . The documents are in the custody of Davis Jamison, a wealthy and powerful (not to mention handsome, of course) venture capitalist living in Houston. Barrett is invited to spend the summer at Davis' home to inventory the papers and begin writing her articles and book. Some of the Jamison relatives, however, oppose this research, insisting that there is something to be found which will damage and embarass the family. Barrett has her own nemesis in the form of a tenured full professor in her department. The romance in this story is the least part. It is as predictible as we expect, but well done and satisfying. The conflict caused by the family and colleague are also predictible, but not quite so satisfactorily resolved. I thought the best part of this story was the historical portion. In addition to Barrett's findings being described, there are flash-back journal entries from the family's founding matriarch beginning at the time of her marriage in 1830 until her husband's death in the mid 1850's which provide glimpses into her life as mistress of a large antebellum plantation.I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance novels. It is well-written, with interesting characters. It is fast reading, but long enough (510 pages) that all but the speediest readers will need at least 2 sittings.
