About this ebook
Your Magic Or Mine?
What if you could cast a spell to help you do your everyday job? But . . . an argument developed on the correct way to cast that spell? Or even worse, what if an ancient force brought you and your soul mate together, but you want nothing to do with each other?
How do you cast a magic spell? By the numbers and a strict equation? Or intuitively by feel and ancient methods? Is casting a science or an art?
Theoretical mathematician Marcus Forscher and botanist Gloriana Morgan come before audiences of magic practitioners to debate those questions and find everyone has an opinion, often totally opposite to each other. The debates become contentious, even dangerous, as practitioners choose sides.
As if that’s not enough for the two speakers, the soul-mate imperative decides they must be together forever, no matter what. Marcus and Gloriana, however, discover they are polar opposites in almost every aspect of their lives. How can they be soul mates? Gloriana questions the imperative’s decision. Marcus announces he won’t be anyone’s mate, no matter what.
While practitioners choose sides between the traditionalists and the futurists and the two debaters try to bridge the magic gap, Marcus and Gloriana use every method they can to put off the inevitable of becoming mates. The imperative is both sneaky and powerful, and the two soul mates may have met their match. So, whose magic will prevail? His or hers--or the imperative’s?

Hi, I’m Ann Macela, and I write enchanting, smart, and sensual contemporary romance and contemporary light paranormal romance. Sometimes with a touch of humor, sometimes with a little sorrow, always with passion and emotion. My award-winning Magic Series is about a group of people who can cast spells to help them with their everyday jobs. Wouldn’t you like to have an ability that would help you type faster, make accurate change, fix the plumbing, or grow flowers and vegetables? Or whatever it is that you do? And these people, who call themselves practitioners, are guaranteed to find their soul mates. Ready or not, and whether or not they want one at that particular moment. As the series progresses, the magic gets more complicated and so do the relationships. Included in the series are the last two in the series, never before published. Windswept won the Romantic Times Reviewers’ Choice Award for Best Romance, Small Press, 2008, and several other awards. Writing this standalone contemporary with a historical twist took me back to my first love, the study of history, and it definitely shows off my Texas roots. There’s a terrible secret in the papers of the Windswept Plantation . . . I’m a native Gulf Coast Texan, now living in The Frozen North of Chicagoland. I started life reading mysteries, then sci-fi and fantasy. When I discovered romances, I saw a way to combine all the aspects of books that I liked into my own stories. And what a welcome difference from writing computer manuals--my old job and which has no magic about it at all. Let me know what you think of my stories. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Ann Macela is a writer I 'discovered' by accident while browsing in a bookstore. Now I haunt her publisher's site, looking for the date of her next release. "Your Magic or Mine?" is book three in her contemporary 'Magic' series. These stories are a delightful read with humor and passion and bits of light mystery set in a world where magic practitioners exist side-by-side with unknowing non-magical humans. At heart in each story is the concept of the 'soulmate phenomenon', a magical imperative that manifests when the perfect 'other' shows up in a practitioner's life. Gloriana is a professor and a practitioner whose talents lean towards plants and growing things. She tends to be a bit messy, comes from a loving family, and is beginning to feel a pang of loneliness for her soulmate. She's also a firm believer in 'whatever works for you' as far as casting and spells go.Marcus is a professor and a practitioner whose talents inhabit the sphere of theoretical magic and numbers. There's a place for everything (not that he has lots of 'things') and everything in its place. He was raised at a succession of boarding schools and never really 'fit in' anywhere. He has NO intention of EVER taking a soulmate and is glad, glad, glad that he's not weighted down with emotion and 'things'. He's come up with a new equation that he firmly believes will help 'quantify' magic and spell casting.I'm sure you can see where this is going! What in the world do these two have in common? Well...it's more than you think and more than they realize at first. After the publication of his new equation and her rebuttal to 'quantifying' magic, there's such an overwhelming response from readers that the editor of the W2 paper (Witches and Warlocks) arranges a public debate. Before you can say 'fiddle dee dee' these two are ensnarled in a practitioner-wide argument, more public debates, and two groups of extremists whose rhetoric is becoming ever more violent. And if that wasn't enough, the soulmate phenomenon is kicking in with a vengeance!I really, really like Ann Macela's writing. This series is on my keeper shelf and I'm looking forward to the next one, "Wild Magic", coming in Oct09. While magic and the soulmate phenomenon are key players in this series, the stories are really about love and compromise. There's not an overabundance of spell casting or good witch/bad witch or too much angst. Just well-written, well-paced, enjoyable romances with heroes and heroines you'd like to meet and spend time with. That's plenty enough for me!
