THE DAY THE ALIENS CAME TO VISIT
It was a late summer night when Jill noticed bright lights in the woods just beyond the clearing. She wanted to go now, but her parents had told her that wolves liked to eat eleven-year-old girls with blond hair that liked to go out at night. She waited until daylight, then woke up Marcie, her older sister, and asked her to go to the woods to find out what the lights were the night before.
Jill and Marcie dressed and headed for the woods. The closer they got to the woods they could hear a sound getting louder and louder. Jill shivered as she approached the woods.
What is that eerie sound?
Marcie asked.
I don’t know, but it is coming from over there,
Jill gasped. Then she pointed deep into the woods.
A few hundred yards into the woods, they saw what was making the noise. It was a large metal egg shaped object on three legs. It had red, blue and green lights flashing all over it.
I don’t know what it is, but I am going to find out. You stay here,
Jill told Marcie.
Don’t go near it! You don’t know what it is.
Marcie stammered.
It was too late; Jill had already crept up along side of the egg shaped object. The lights were bright and they made her feel good inside. Closer and closer she moved towards the egg shaped object, until she was about a foot away, then she reached out to touch the object, when all of a sudden the lights started going faster and the noise grew louder. Jill covered her ears, all at once green fog came out of the lights and a door opened. Jill was frightened and jumped back. Steps came out from inside the metal object. The light from inside the craft became very bright.
Marcie was screaming Jill get back over here, hurry!
At that very moment, old Red who had been chasing the cat came into the woods and started barking and growling. Jill who was frozen with fear, was still sitting on the ground, her eyes glued to the door of the metal object.
Down the steps came a tall dark figure, it was eight foot tall. When it found the bottom of the steps, Jill could see it was a giant roach. He had eight legs, but walked on the back two. His big black eyes seemed to be watching her every move. He had what looked like a big fish bowl with two tubes going into the top of a tank on his back.
Jill screamed run Marcie go tell dad. I will be right behind you
.
Jill got up and started running. She heard footsteps right behind her. She turned to look and to her surprise, the roach was reaching out for her. She tripped on a rock and fell to the ground the roach kept coming.
Jill picked up a nearby tree branch and swung it wildly hitting the roach’s fish bowl. The bowl cracked down the middle. The roach let out a blood-curdling scream and came after her again. She hit him again, then threw down the tree branch and ran.
Run to the barn!
Jill yelled.
Jill cleared the woods and caught up with Marcie and Old Red and the cat. Dad had come out of the barn to see what the entire ruckus was about.
Jill looked back to see the giant roach fall to the ground. The sky turned black, the trees started swaying. The leaves were blowing everywhere. In the sky there was the egg shaped metal object hovering over the giant roach. A beam of light hit the roach and pulled him into the craft. The craft went straight up and disappeared into the dark sky.
Dad looked at Jill and Marcie What was that?
He asked with a puzzled look on his face.
Jill looked him in the eyes and said a giant roach.
THE TRUTH ABOUT THE ALIENS
That afternoon Jill slipped out of the house. She had decided to go back to where the craft had been and see what the giant roach was doing. She got to the edge of the woods and could hear a low hum. That is weird she thought, because she knew the ship had left.
She crept up on the place where the ship had been, as if she was a cat stalking her prey. There on the ground was a silver box with five shiny disks in it. The roach must have dropped this during the struggle she thought.
The disks looked like the type you would put into your computer. She noticed the hum had gotten louder right there in front of her where the ship had been. There was a hole in the ground, a deep dark hole. That is where the hum was coming from. Jill grabbed the box and ran to her house to get a rope and flashlight. She wanted to know what that hum was and what the giant roaches were doing.
She ran into the house and grabbed the flashlight, made a peanut butter sandwich, and filled a jug with iced tea. She went out to the barn and grabbed a rope hanging on a nail. Jill checked everything, now she was ready to find out what the giant roach was doing in her woods.
After going back to the woods, Jill tied the rope to a big tree just in front of the hole. Armed with her lunch, iced tea, the box of silver disks, and her flashlight, Jill then lowered herself into the hole. It was very dark as she slid down the rope.
When her feet touched the ground, the hole went from dark to red, white and green lights shining all over the room. Jill could see tables in the center of the room, the walls where covered in paintings. Jill was sure no one on earth had ever seen anything like this before.
Jill walked across the room, there against the wall was a machine and a big screen with flashing signs she had never seen before. On the side of the machine was a slot just big enough for the disks she had found. It was like a coin slot in a video game.
Jill carefully took out the first disk and slid it into the slot. The whole room came to life. On the walls and ceiling were giant roaches and space ships fighting with men that were dressed in
