Introduction

Last year I stumbled upon the world of self publishing and in February of 2012 I self published the first novella, Letters from A Bipolar Mother, in my memoir series, Chronicles of a Fractured Life. During the last several months as I attempted to be my own author, editor, designer, and pretty much jack of all trades in the publishing side of things, I discovered there was a vast amount of information out there, but not a lot of it made sense. Most of it was written with lots of technical jargon so I had difficulty trying to figure it out or it contained a lot of information that I didn’t really need to know in order to actually format my book. In the end I finally gave up and hired a formatter and cover designer for my book series, but I figured there were a lot of writers out there whose budget didn’t allow for them to hire a formatter.
