My Journey

About this ebook
I got my first call into ministry as a teen age girl. Women were not then accepted into the church so I took my call into teaching.
This is the story of the steady growth of my faith during the most difficult times of my life, ending with the amazing, wonderful moment when I was finally able to answer the call, renewed again when I was already an old woman.
I hope it might inspire others never to doubt that God is good and that there is a place for everyone in His church.
Jean Rolt
I have spent most of my life as a teacher who wrote. Now I am a priest who writes. This makes me a very happy woman.

Chapter One
This is my attempt to try to explain the steps that took me on the journey that led me to the priesthood. It was a long journey. I was already past 60 when I was ordained and the pathway had been strewn with rocks and pit falls for much of the way.
God was always there for me. At no point of my life , even in the deepest troughs was God missing. In that I was very lucky.
I was born two years before World war 2 started. As a small child I was left in the care of my grandparents. To them I owe the structure and the discipline of faith. They were Welsh Baptists.
Every Sunday we went to chapel. I had to wear a liberty bodice that supported long black itchy stockings.
The minister preached hell fire and damnation. He wore a wing collar and black cassock and was terrifying. I would sit shrinking into my seat and pray that I would never be called out and held before the disapproving congregation for their blame
