Retired Military living in Northern New York with my wife Sue. The inspiration for this book series came from Isabelle the black and white cat that seemed to always know when my wife was upset and needed attention. Currently work as a crisis hotline counselor and when the weather is nice we play golf, swim, camp and play tennis. When the weather is not so nice we play golf, (on snowshoes) and crosscountry ski. Writing is very part-time and I am grateful for the fans of Amun and, yes, I do plan on completing the series, so please be patient with me.

    A Cats Tale

The Nine Lives of Isabelle Book II: Cleo

    By Robert Dixon

    Introduction

Having ended his first life in the sands of Egypt at the fangs of a snake, our noble cat, who helped restore the worship of the Goddess Bast to the temples of the old kingdom by doing something that no cat was ever suppose to do. (He talked!) This angered the Goddess and she laid a curse upon him, he must now live nine lives and perform missions for the good of mankind. This is the first of these trips that he must endure if he ever wants to lift the curse of extra lives and live in peace with his family and friends in the animal version of Heaven called the Garden.

    Chapter One

Slowly my senses returned and the first sensation I felt was warmth. I tried to focus, but my eyes were shut and no matter how hard I tried they refused to open. My reaction was to yell out, but instead of something that sounded familiar to me, like a loud roar or howl, I heard a pretty pathetic mew! I thought, Oh! Great! on the verge of tears, I’m a kitten again! Then a familiar voice appeared in my head, not to my ears. Bast! I thought, and she replied, Yes? Again I thought, (because I couldn’t talk anymore) So, Mom, when will I be able to see and talk again?

Bast replied, Amun, you’re just a kitten dear! You have some growing to do! Oh, and you have only one Mom so Bast will do just fine, or Ma’am unless you want an additional nine lives? Now I really did want to cry!

No Ma’am! I replied. I just relished in the warmth and fuzzy dark as Bast began to explain the changes that had taken place since I was last in the land of the living.

Good news… she began, You are still in Egypt! Even so there have been many changes that have taken place since you were here last. From the times of Tut and Ay to now, more than twelve hundred years have passed.

This revelation caused me to pause in my nursing, and thought, Twelve Hundred Years! then, doing my best rabbit imitation stated, Time is an elephant!

Bast chuckled and said, Yes dear, time is irrelevant. Continuing, she told me of the wonder and marvel of the Sphinx. Modeled after her of course, but they couldn’t get the face right, so one of the egotistical pharaohs decided to put his face there! Also these large tombs were built from heavy stone blocks that resembled the mountain at the Valley of the Kings, a pyramid is what they called it. They were so big that people started saying the pharaohs were trying to overcompensate for shortness somewhere else! She snickered at that.

Times certainly have changed here and also in the world as well. This king named Alexander tried to conquer the whole world and almost succeeded, in fact we are now in the new capital of Egypt that was named after him. Considered the new hub of civilization, Alexandria. His aspirations of greatness occurred many years ago, but it seems that these humans are never satisfied with what they have before them. It is always want, want, and want! More land, more gold, more power! The lives that you live will show you more of the greed of man.

Thanks Bast! I said, I think you have me totally depressed now!

She laughed a bit and said, Sorry to paint you such a gloomy picture, but there are some great things happening as well.

I burped and yawned as I fell asleep, Wake me when I can see the picture better.

I felt a paw rub my head as I drifted off and heard her say, Oh Amun, so many things I will show you.

Cleo! Bast called from the fog of sleep, days later, Wake up little one!

I thought she must have been talking to someone else so I did a small stretch and rolled over to drift back to sleep, then I felt her shake me with her paw. What! What! What! I started, and then I opened my eyes, Hey! I can see again! then, Hey! I can talk again!

With my eyes able to now focus I looked up at my mother Bast and she said, Yes, my child you now enjoy the gifts of sight and speech once again. She looked even more massive now than when she sat upon her throne, and I realized that I was still a small kitten. To me she looked more like a leopard now, with powerful features that included long tufts of black hair that pointed off the tips of her ears.

Cool! I thought, If I grow up looking like her, snakes and rats better watch out! Then I remembered something she said as she was trying to wake me. Who were you talking to before? I asked, Sounded like Leo, Beo, Geo… something like that.

My child… she began, that is going to be your new name! I made a gagging sound and she continued, "You will always be known as Amun to your family, but your name will change with each life you
