Hello again.I've added Drifta's Quest 2 on this site. Unlikely to be a Drifta's Quest 3 but never say never. I am already working on a new book to fit in between other creative projects. As a mere lad of 68 I have a good few years to tell my stories so I hope people will keep enjoying them.

    Double Bluff

    Chapter 1

Detective Senior Sergeant Stanley Morris stared at the evidence before him on his desk. A blood soaked rag. A dried up wad of chewing gum. Two metres of yellow nylon cord, frayed at one end, clean cut at the other. One small piece of broken glass, also blood stained. The final piece disturbed Morris the most. A severed little finger. Each piece was in a individual plastic bag. Also staring at the clues were Detective Sergeant Vincent Crowe and Detective Constable Fred Ferret Ducket.

    'Initial observations. Vince?'

'Somebody was tied up against their will, possibly injured, acquired a glass fragment to cut the rope, the glass is bloodstained, so probably cut him or herself whilst cutting the rope, used a rag on the wound, then disappeared.'

    'Ferret?'

'There was enough broken glass from the windows. There was no chair, and from the marks on the dirt on the floor the intended victim was tied up sitting on the floor, his back to the wall. Why only one piece of rope? Surely, a rope cut would be in two pieces. Where is the second length of rope?'

    'A good point, Ferret. Vince?'

'Still tied to the victim, I presume. As soon as he or she was free, he or she took off, the second piece of the rope still attached.'

    'Ferret?'

'Highly plausible. What about the finger?'

'Torture,' said Crowe. 'I don't believe it was cut off in the effort to escape. A person might cut their finger, but they wouldn't keep cutting until it dropped off.'

Morris nodded. 'I'd agree with that. What about the gum? Ferret?'

'It has blood on it. That suggests to me the victim was chewing gum and was struck hard in the mouth causing the victim to spit out the gum.'

'Backing up the torture theory,' said Crowe.

Ducket said, 'Or a big fight when trying to escape, or even before that. There was plenty of blood on the floor. With that much
