    WHAT IS A VISION?

In Joel 2:28 & 29 God spoke through the prophet declaring what would happen in the future, And afterward, I will pour out My Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out My Spirit in those days. We have already taken a look at what prophecies are and we all know what dreams are, but what are visions? If someone told you they saw a vision from the Lord, would you picture a scene like Saul on the road to Damascus? The vision he saw was so brilliant that he fell down and was blinded. Although I believe I have seen visions from God, none of them have been that dramatic.

I would like to suggest that most visions people see are not seen with their physical eyes; but, rather, with their mental eye. Let me put it this way: You are seeing the words on this screen with your physical eyes; but when you were reading about Saul on the road to Damascus, you pictured that scene with your mental eye.

With that concept as a foundation let me build upon it. I would like to define all of the visions that I have had simply as inspired daydreams. Most have come to me, as the prophecies also have, while I have been worshipping God along with other believers.

One Sunday morning while our entire congregation was enthusiastically praising God, a picture came into my mind. I asked God what it meant. A thought came to me that I felt was the interpretation of that scene I saw in my mind. So, I went forward to share it with the entire church. I said:

I saw an image of a person running frantically up a long, dusty road toward a fortified city with huge walls. The person was in a panic and was sprinting as if pursued by an enemy. He would fall and get back up, continuing to run without dusting off.

The prophetic interpretation I feel God gave me for the vision is as follows: "You have decided to leave the camp of the enemy and change loyalties to Me. Do not worry that you are dirty. I will clean you. Do not fear that the gates of my city will be closed when you reach them. I am the King of this fortress and have commanded the gatekeeper to swing them wide open for you. I have a place prepared for you here. Come to
