I was in the mood to read something exciting, and I had this one on my kobo and decided to have a read. The moment I started reading, it felt like someone grabbed my hand and started running. I was hooked. It was fast paced, mysterious, exciting, and thrilling. The characters even though they weren't trying to be, were actually funny and made me laugh. I loved the story, and was wondering the whole time what are they, and had to really think between the lines. But then I got it. He was a merman who came to save a mermaid who was coming into her powers. And the islanders were shape shifters who were coming into their powers too. And there were creatures who wanted to end them before their powers came in because the creatures wouldn't stand a chance against all of them. Wow it was just what I was looking for, something exciting to read. I am glad that I downloaded the other books too. It's the type of book series that keeps you coming back. Good read.

SURF SINNERS

My world shattered, crumbled, and fell into unrecognizable chunks at my feet. I realized a shocking truth about myself, and it shook me to the core of my humanity, the night he came for me. This dark and delectable stranger, Rogue Soule, had an alluring pull, a hold over me that I couldn’t explain, or resist.

Each had an unfamiliar face and they called me Aurora Snow. They vanished that night, taken by creatures of great magic. Summoning the courage deep within me, I faced a choice; follow Rogue into the depths of the unknown, or risk my mortal soul to save the ones who loved me.

The ones I will never remember..

Chapter One

There was blood in the surf. At first blink, I was panting with a tortured cry that mounted into a high-pitched scream. The pounding waves rumbled the earth beneath me, my body raked against sand and rock as a shock tide pinned me down. A blinding pain soared through me, something pierced my ankle in a death grip and I struggled to pull myself up as my leg howled in pain.

Aurora? I thought I heard over my own hysterics. I was filled with fierce terror, my limbs were kicking, my stomach lurched as a chilling screech charged out of me.

Aurora, calm yourself. It is a dream.

My eyes blasted open. Was that a dream? Wild relief rushed over me, I was safe inside a sterile room. In a gut reaction, I shielded my eyes from the stinging brightness, and winced as my hands whipped up so hard that my face was imprinted with potch marks.

Nothing looked familiar! My stormy gush of fear switched to beat red cheeks when I caught someone looking at me from the corner of my eye, he was sitting quietly, no doubt a little bit disturbed by my night terror. I took in a small gulp. Where ‘am I? Squeaked out past my shuddering lips, my lashes were wet from tears, my chest was heaving.

Wiltfang Island Clinic. He smiled at me, but he was worried inside I could sense it.

How did I get here? I asked, panting wildly. My mind shadowed over with doubt, and I was swamped with uncertainty. The sound of Wiltfang was unpleasant, I tried to picture what it would look like and a bitter chill crossed over me, as I repeated the name to myself in a muted hush.

He slowly perched his hand on the crown of my head. I wasn’t paying much attention to his actions as I was stumbling over the tone of his voice, it was deep, and rich, his accent exotic compared to mine. His touch yet subtle had lit something in me and I shied away in confusion, as my body purred under his touch.

Seeing his face made me swallow stiffly with anxious breaths. Do I know you? I asked trying to sit up and a searing pain started from the back of my head causing little white dots to appear before my eyes. I eased back down on the pillows, turning to see him as a thought occurred to me, the blank I drew went beyond his unfamiliar features. Did he call me Aurora? Was that my name? Flipping through the thoughts in my mind left me more confused, my name was filed away somewhere in my head. Nothing was all I could see, it was like staring wide eyed during a blackout.

His laughter was light, almost cheerful, but I detected deep worry lines forming on his forehead when he became mindful of the bandage wrapped around my head. You suffered severe trauma. He wasn’t only looking at my bandage, his eyes settled on me, it made me suddenly aware of my curves as I was lying on my side.

Oh it couldn’t have been so bad, I’m still breathing. I said, too drained to puff up the clingy sheet, crackling with static. I was massaging just above my eyebrows, the throbbing pain was now pumping my temples, and the bright light wasn’t helping, either, it was damn well killing me.

The tautness of his posture was somewhat disquieting as he took a severe glimpse over his shoulder at the hospital door, he held a stare at the window for several seconds, and his eyes narrowed as he resumed his attention to me. I thought I heard short hesitant breaths coming from him as he fiddled with my bandage and slowly began unravelling the cotton wrap. The touch of his skin was electrifying, and I captured a hint of pleasure forming on the corner of his mouth, and once he finished removing my head wrap it slid down to the floor, but he didn’t seem to notice it slipped out of his hands. The weight of his weathered fingers pressed my head deeper into the pillow, but his touch wasn’t aggressive, it was gentle and kind. I warmed to his cool skin, curious what he would do next.

His broad hand rushed toward my throat. How did you attain that? He asked with his brows lowered sharply.

I jerked out of his reach, his sudden movement scared me half to death, then I noticed a crystal dangling off a chain around my neckline. He lifted it curiously, it was as dark as coal, and hard as onyx. He let it fall and I watched it with half-hearted interest as it rolled down my chest, bouncing until it settled. My lips were dead weights, and my body wasn’t cooperating with my mind, it was virtually impossible to give him an answer, even if I had one to offer.

Black Diamond. Remarkable. he said, as if to himself. He framed the hair off my face and I was drawn to his eyes, they were sharp, bright, with a bluish-silver tint. He glided a hand over my head, but his solid fingers didn’t touch a strand, he seemed to be struggling with emotions and his breathing slowed to a stagger.

I was unable to bat an eyelid as a soothing warm fog came over me in a wash of emotion, it was spine tingling and a little exciting. The pain in my temples eased to the top of my head, hovered briefly, and drifted further back. I lowered my lids taking slow easy breaths, there was nothing but calm, the pain was gone. Thank you, but how did you do it? I asked, as my body adjusted to feeling normal again, if it was normal for me.

He didn’t respond to my question. I became watchful of him as he was pacing in the limited space at the foot of my bed, he had a thumb arched against his chin, and a knuckle pressed against his lower lip. Drape in your attire, we must bolt. He glanced over his shoulder attentive of the door.

That was forward. My brows shot up as I observed him move toward the window and this time pressed his face against it, surveying the hall. You dive? I asked, noticing his scuba suit only covered his lower half. My brows drifted upward with an airy feeling when his hulk of a body came into full view, his upper portion was remarkably sculpted, and I supposed diving was a regular sport for him. I caught a glimpse of his posture as it stiffened, there were scars on his back, long thin jagged scars, some were pearly white, and some were freshly raw and red. When he turned to look at me, I noticed there was a tiny one along the side of his cheek, that one was pearly-blue, it made him appear dangerous, and yet, incredibly sexy.

It startled me to see a bottomless void in his eyes, and there was a hushed urgency in the way he moved as he glanced toward the window. His shoulders rose up a level as he chucked a pair of jeans and a t-shirt reading, SNOW BUNNY at me. They were damp and smelled of the ocean, strangely enough it was a welcoming scent to me.

I sat upright and accepted the clothes, I was feeling a little nervous, and out of place, but the intensity of his mood, startled me most of all. He gave me a slow easy once over and I had the notion his blood heated up as his inspection stopped on my calves. I’m not agreeing because you told me. I don’t think I’m fond of hospitals, or, breezy nighty's. I finished that with a twirling of my hand, dangling off my wrist high in the air, and with a quick huff he turned his back to me.

You will attend with me, if you do not wish to die.

DIE? I yelped. I had one leg planted in my jeans, hopping on one foot, trying to keep my balance, and finally compromised and braced myself against the side of the hospital bed. Did you say die? I was seriously rethinking about running away with this madman, and scrambled to finish dressing, my eyes were locked open along with my mouth. Was that a threat? Just what happened to land me in the hospital, anyway?

He shifted his head to meet my gaze dead on, with the vein in his neck throbbing. Are you familiar with the term of death? He asked with teeth grinding, they were bulky, almost fang like.

I couldn’t help but stare at them. Yep! That’s why I’m not going anywhere with you. I replied evenly, hoping it sounded even.

Be rid of them. His eyes darkened, they were cold, his facial muscles tightened and his breathing was ragged. Death will come to you all, you must attend with me. He urgently flicked a look at the hospital door window, as hope tangoed with a strained desperation, he seemed to shut down and he lowered his head as if defeated. My wits were alerted, in the vein of a sixth sense that came in waves, I knew he told the truth. I couldn’t understand how I knew it, before I had time to register any of this, he was bolting toward the door.

What’s your name? I asked with my fingers wringing, my feet were cemented in place.

Rogue. There was a subtle beam of light, and all that was left was a swinging door. I was immediately eclipsed with an unshakable feeling of worry, my chest was constricted, and it was difficult to breathe, to think. I had no idea of where I was, and what happened to make him believe that bad things would happen if I didn’t go with him.

I was alone now. The peace in the room instantly felt suffocating, I hadn’t moved or released a breath. I stood there gaping at the door, half expecting him to come back, all the while thinking, although I spent a few minutes with Rogue, I regretted not going with him.

There was commotion. The door creaked open and I realized there was no air in my lungs, I expected Rogue to walk in, but he didn’t. Within a few seconds I was crowded in by a room full of people with concerned youthful faces, and a quiet hush fell among them. They all looked about the same age, teenagers I guessed. Did it mean I was a teen, too?

The one with the bulky build and sterling emerald eyes spoke first. The Wave Rider! His bass-toned outburst was abrupt, and I jumped back a step. Another moment had passed and a reassuring peacefulness came over me, and I inhaled calmly, titling my head to the side studying him with baited curiosity. He seemed keyed up, and chatted endlessly about a yacht, as though he knew me. None of them seemed a smudge bit as confused as I was, and I decided to keep quiet, to get a feel for these strangers before I asked them to leave me alone.

It’s beached at Mispec Shore. The blond one beside him said, with a kind hand on my lower back as he directed me toward the bed. Aurora why are you dressed? Get back to bed.

That’s the name Rogue called me, I gulped with a breath of relief and yet I could feel my cheeks sinking in, tears were threatening to start. I sat on the edge of the bed counting silently to myself, blank.. blank, and blank, all of the faces in front of me were more blanks. I saw myself in the mirror of the closet door, I knew it was me as I was the only one sitting on the bed. I didn’t have a clear view of my body, but I could see my head, then I sighed frustrated, the reflection of my face was another blank.

We’ll let you rest. Was the last of what I registered as the blond one with the curly head went to leave, signally the others to follow him.

No! I barked out. I didn’t know what to do as terror belted me at the thought of being alone. Please stay. All of you. I didn’t want to alarm them, but I had a bag full of questions, and this room full of people were about to leave with the answers.

While we were searching for you, Johnny was going up along the shoreline and saw her. The one to my right explained as he pointed toward a pretty girl who avoided making eye contact, and she kept her head lowered, she looked as lost as I felt.

This is Mineau. The blond one pronounced Min-no, as he talked she went to stand beside him. I lowered my head pretending there was something in my eye and caught a tear before it rolled down my cheek, I think Rogue witnessing me kicking and screaming from a dream was enough of an embarrassment for one day.

She rescued the Wave Rider. He was unable to contain a smile.

That was shocking. I put my hand out to Mineau and smiled vacantly, here was I, being introduced to someone who I didn’t know, by someone who didn’t know I didn’t know them. I faked a shiny smile, trying to mask the confused facade that was about to return.

Mineau adjusted the long wrap skirt she was wearing, it dragged the floor and was patterned with bright tropical flowers, she shifted her gaze to the blond guy and hid behind his shoulder. There was a warm calm from the others, but from her it was different, she discarded my gesture and I lowered my hand, wary of her reaction.

All I could get out of her was her name. The blond guy shrugged. Long dark strands of Mineau’s hair veiled along the outline of his shoulder and he leaned down and mutedly spoke against her ear. Mineau seemed startled and turned away, and he had a half grin and placed a hand over hers and her anxious frown dissolved.

A pretty girl with long dark hair and bright brown eyes held a tray. Got you something special. She said with a perky smile.

What a doll. Came out so naturally that I sat up alarmed. I casually changed position, glancing at myself in the mirror, checking my expression, I didn’t want to alert them to my trauma, not yet. I accepted the hot cup of apple cider, it was steaming, packed with the aroma of cinnamon, cloves and possibly ginger. She passed over a brown paper bag and it smelled devilishly delish, it was chocolate. I remember the scent of chocolate but not the nice girl who brought it to me?

A Boston cream doughnut to go with? She softly giggled. A little flicker of life returned to me, and I accepted it eagerly.

We all know you’re a beach bunny. I almost laughed when his chipper tone perked up the room. Come on now. Tell us who put a gun to your head, to make you go in the water? The blond guy asked looking toward the ceiling. The words BLOWING SNOW, was written on his muscle shirt, and I read it as I detected he had something on his mind. For no apparent reason my connection to him clogged up, I knew he was worried about me, but his attention was stuck on the girl who clung to him.

Funny that. Aurora going off looking for trouble. One of the boys said, as he slipped his arm around the girl with the tray and mussed up my hair with his free hand.

Sorry love, it’s not funny. The girl said, giving an elbow jab to his ribs. They just think it sounds funny, because you know.. it’s not like you. You’re usually so careful.

I caught movement to my right, it was the dangerous looking one with the frosted emerald eyes, he gave me an indulgent surveillance, the lines on his face were firmly set. I rested a hand on my head, trying to shut the world from my sight and it came to me that I was picking up on strange vibes from all of them, it was an impression. I could sense a mixture of erratic heartbeats, coated with affection and.. love. My view shifted from one visitor to another and I listened with my mind.

Without warning, my connection became fuzzy, and it dulled to a static humming noise. It was a strange troubling calm, maybe the bump on my head triggered something in me? I rested back a little calmer and thought about the blond guy’s question, and decided I had been playing coy dog long enough. I was hoping you could tell me what happened. I said, gathering up my courage to continue. I’m very sorry to inform you people. I have no idea who you are.

Some mouths were dropped. Some eyes were popped, and the pretty girl with the tray completely blanched. You don’t know us? The blond guy asked, plunking down on the nearest chair.

'Fraid not. I replied with a frown sliding down my chin. They all seemed nice, I had a strong notion they genuinely cared about me.

She’s got amnesia? His cheeks were paling spelling out the blond one pitied me. It made me grief-stricken to think of it. I’m Johnny. Your brother?

And I am? I slowly fell off my lips.

Aurora Snow are you telling me you don’t remember talking to me on the cb? The big bang on the Wave Rider? Johnny asked, his tone had spiked up a level, he was moving eagerly toward me, reaching for my hand.

I rejected his gesture, looking at him as though he had holes in his head. His reaction brought me sadness in my heart and I wished I knew the right words, and I longed for a memory to spring up in my mind, anything to take the distressing look off his face. I gaped forward, stunned as the window drew my attention, it was morning, I could tell as the sun had made its first appearance over the horizon on the deep blue sea.

Surfette was rag dolled. A lively voice carried over my visitors and striking baby cheeks poked through the armpits of the others. He hurriedly wiggled past them and was standing before me, the sight of him lifted my spirits, he lifted his thumb and pinky, tucking down the rest and it made me giggle when he said. Bodacious wipe out! Names Rip.

As in Rip Tide, I assumed correctly, as he smiled at me with a sharp nod of his head. I adored his style, his long dreaded hair
