About this ebook

The Hunter Island Adventure is a fun-filled fantastic non-stop adventure that occurs (chronologically) roughly one year before the events of the best-selling novel, Pulp Heroes - More Than Mortal. This wild tale tells the story of what happens when four kidnapped women (friends and relatives of the main pulp hero characters in the Pulp Heroes trilogy) prove to be much more trouble than their captors expected.
(The Pulp Heroes sagas are epic adventures spanning two centuries in time and linking the incredible lives of history’s most popular Victorian Age adventurers of the 1800’s with the greatest action heroes of the Pulp Era and an assortment of well-known, real-life figures.)

When he knew could run no further, Perry halted and dropped to his knees on the dirt path. His lungs were burning, his throat was raw, his temples throbbed, and his chest ached as his heart pounded furiously in his chest. Sweat pooled across his furrowed forehead, gathered at the brow, and dripped in a steady stream from the tip of his broken nose. It saturated his khaki shirt, which clung to his lean frame like a second skin. With his head darting at every noise, like a wild skittish animal, he quickly peered through the lush vegetation at the open meadow to the right. Holding his breath, his heart throbbing loudly in his ears, he searched for any sounds of his pursuers. Nothing. But that didn't mean they weren't there. He was ready to drop from exhaustion and knew he couldn't go much further. But to quit running was to die. And Perry wasn't prepared to die.

Perhaps they returned to the castle, after the fat one twisted his ankle, carelessly stepping into the trap that Perry had set. But no, he knew better than that. If it had been Lord Roxton, or perhaps the Australian, maybe they would have. Roxton was deadly, but the other man was evil. What was his name, again? Brady? No, Broady. That man was far too wily, too dangerous by a mile. The Australian reminded Perry of an old associate of his, Simon Blake. Deadly, mean, and exceedingly cruel. During dinner, Perry had overheard one of the other men speaking. Of the original group of poachers, only Blake had thus far eluded capture by the pirate Captain Morgan.

Still panting heavily, the man rose to his feet. A stream trickled nearby and his parched throat screamed for relief. The thought of food made Perry's stomach growl loudly. He hadn't eaten since that dinner the previous night. Oh, and what a fine meal it was. Yes, indeed, Sanger and Judge Armstrong had insisted that he could have anything he desired. After all, it was intended to be the condemned man's last meal. He was guilty, and readily confessed as much, of the crimes he had been accused of by the judge. And if this really was his day to die, Perry knew he deserved whatever punishment the courts decided. Unfortunately, he wasn't currently in a civilized country, ruled by law-abiding citizens.

His jury of peers was comprised of twelve armed men, all deadly hunters. And the punishment for his heinous crimes was death. Released from his cell at the break of dawn, he was tossed a sheathed knife and ordered to run toward the jungle. There was no question in his mind what the group of armed men intended to do. As a poacher, he understood the distinction between hunters and prey. And like a wild animal, he fled for his life, pursued by skilled hunters with high-powered weapons. The sun was now close to setting, dropping lower on the distant horizon. Another hour and he would have survived the day. He honestly wasn't certain if this was a good thing or not. He didn't truly relish being alone at night on this tropical island, a thousand miles from civilization. The jungle was a dangerous place to be after twilight. And he wouldn't have the luxury of a fire, which could easily be seen from across the small island, revealing his location to his pursuers.

After he was finally convinced that he was alone, Perry cautiously knelt beside the crystal clear stream. Fresh water creeks like this one crisscrossed the entire island. He had also noticed a well located in the basement of the castle. Drinking from a cupped hand, Perry's darting eyes scanned the surrounding jungle. He was convinced that the others would find him soon if he didn't keep moving. This meant he didn’t have time to appreciate the cool waters that slaked his thirst. Yet, he paused for an extra minute to soak his bandana, wiping his sun-baked features and wetting the back of his neck. He securely tied the handkerchief back around his throat and stood up slowly, his legs wobbling unsteadily.

A startled fawn bolted as it suddenly noticed the human, standing only a dozen feet from where it had come to drink. Springing high into the air, it was gone in a flash, lost in the thick foliage. Perry was more startled than the deer had been, and his heart leapt into his throat. Reflexively, he chuckled, his voice sounding much louder than he had intended. With a fluttering of wings, a flock of birds took to the air, rising high above the canopy of tall trees that blocked out the bright sun. With a groan of pain, Perry suddenly clutched at the spear of agony in chest, bunching the khaki material in his clenched fist. He knew instinctively that it was his heart. For his old man, congestive heart failure did the one thing a lifetime of alcohol abuse and four nagging ex-wives couldn’t. It literally stopped him dead in his tracks. One moment he was spitting and cursing, the next he was worm food. And Perry, being the proverbial chip off the old block, expected to meet his end in the same way. But not here, he thought with a groan of pain. Not now. Not when he was running for his very life.

Glancing down at his chest, he was surprised to discover a fountain of blood seeping from between his clenched fingers. As he glanced up, the all-to-familiar sound of a high-powered rifle discharge reached his ears. On a distant ridge, he saw a lone figure holding a rifle, a billow of smoke coughing from the barrel. There was a fleeting moment of silence, before he felt the second bullet tear through his chest. Perry was already dead before he dropped to the ground, his warm blood slowly mingling with the cool waters of the stream. The prey had fallen victim to the hunters.

Nearly every head in the dining hall turned as Pamela Titan and Cassandra Greyson entered through the etched glass French doors. Many gentlemen openly gawked at the pair of stunning ladies. Women frowned with scorn at their own distracted escorts and glared enviously at the lovely newcomers.

Pam was slightly over six feet tall, well-rounded in all the right places, and tightly wrapped in an elegant, shimmering golden silk dress. The smooth skin of her exposed shoulders and arms was a light copper color, the shoulder length hair only slightly darker. Her most striking feature was her deep, brass-hued eyes. She was the living embodiment of a mythical Amazon warrior. She was also the owner of a popular Park Avenue beauty salon and day spa in Manhattan, called Titan Salons, Incorporated, where she charged her wealthy clients absurd fees. As an aside, her cousin was the world famous crime fighter, John ‘Doc’ Titan. From infancy, Doc Titan had been raised on a remote island and instructed by the brightest minds his father could find. He was also trained in the physical aspects, his body honed to become a modern-day Hercules. His five friends, Kong, Bart, Big Tom, Gibbs, and Percy, often accompanied him during his incredible, globe-spanning adventures.
