About this ebook
One would not expect Abnora’s Quest, a charming tale of a princess’ journey to become queen, to have been written by Rebekah Cohen at age 9. Abnora’s Quest is full of ghosts, magic, adventure, fun...and lots and lots of chocolate,” as it is a tale sure to please readers ages 9-12.
A fun tale of discovering one’s abilities (supernatural or not), Abnora’s Quest proves that friendship can be found in the most unlikely of places and that the ability to compromise is one that all of us should possess.

The Journey Begins
Hello. Greetings. Salutations, whichever you prefer. I’m not picky.
I am Abnora, Princess (Extraordinaire), and I have a very long journey ahead of me. The River Fairy, a glittery blonde being on wings, has sent me on a quest to find three magical items:
1. A yellow gem in an invisible mountain
2. The only flower in the world that changes color every minute
3. The juiciest fruit in the entire world.
The last one may be papaya, but we’ll find out.
Princess Abnora,
the head guard Samson had said earlier during a quick briefing between the guards and me, we must leave before noon tomorrow. I heard the weather conditions in the desert will be very bad. Sandstorms and the like. You should get a good night’s sleep.
Guards. Necessities of life, I guess, when you’re a princess. So says my father, the king. Personally, I hate having guards follow me like flies every minute of every day. It makes sense, I suppose, when I’m my father’s only offspring and the only heir to the throne. But sometimes I wish I had an older brother or sister so I could climb a tree or devour the library or have a good cry without them hanging about. And now five of them – five! -were even coming with me on my mission!
We were leaving in the morning. I was packed, and still digesting the celebratory dinner my parents had hosted in my honor; it would be my last meal in the palace until my quest was over. All the guests had gone home, and now I was sitting on the featherbed in my bedroom, wearing my most comfortable pair of silk pajamas. I wouldn’t be able to bring them on the quest; Mother had warned me that they would get dirty very quickly. It seemed that I had to leave everything about my life behind for this quest. I was going to miss the palace – everything and everyone in it – so much.
The gardens, where I could read and enjoy the sweet fragrance of the delicate flowers at the same time. The kitchens, where I could always be sure of finding something tasty to eat. The throne room, in all its grand splendor. Even my bedroom, which I hated because it had been decorated in pink and white flowers by my mother when I was just a baby. Still, it was my room.
My mother, always patient and calm and gentle, always listening to my troubles. My father, strong and fiercely (over-)protective, but lovable all the same. My grandmother, who had many of the same interests as I did, except that she was too old to climb trees anymore.
But the adventure of going on an actual quest definitely made up for having to leave everything behind. I thought of the stories my parents and grandmother had told me about their own quests – they all sounded amazing. I hoped I would be able to have adventures that measured up half as well.
In my notebook, I had written a list of the magical items I needed to find. I stared at the list now, thinking hard.
How was I going to find all these things? Where would I look? Invisible mountains? Color-changing flowers? Questions chased around my mind, overlapping one over the other until I buried my head in a down pillow to stifle a groan.
Anyway, the logical part of my mind told me, there’s nothing I can do now but stop worrying!
I needed to sleep. I slipped my notebook into my knapsack, shut the lights, and slipped under the covers.
Tomorrow was going to be a long day.
I awoke late the next morning, but as I dashed down to the front hall of the palace, terrified that I was late for the beginning of my quest, I discovered that all my guards were still asleep! Now, I’m not the kind of princess who would chop off their heads or anything, but I was a little annoyed.
I’m also not the kind of princess who waits around for the staff to do everything for me. So I decided to make breakfast for myself, and all the guards. The five guards who were coming with me would be my only companions until the end of this quest, and
