The Nun, the Gun, and Tom Mix

Dennis Riordan is on the outs with his probation officer, can't hold a job, and has fallen in love with a salsa band from Mexico that he dialed in on his car radio. But something weird is going on: rival drug cartels are fronting salsa bands as a sort of status symbol, and there's a hit on Los Gatos Negros, the number-one band. Believing that Tom Mix is his father, Dennis decides to do what Tom Mix and Tony the Wonder Horse would have done: break into Mexico to save the musicians. Sounds like a plan...except for the nun.

Suda J. Prohaska began her writing career as a journalist. In addition to her reporting, her nonfiction has appeared in magazines such as "Rhode Island Monthly." Her fiction has been featured in "South Dakota Review." She also co-wrote a nonfiction book published by Random House some years ago and is currently working on another short-story collection. The stories in her first collection of short fiction--"The Evolving Light of Night"--came randomly, at odd moments when the characters began telling her stuff they should have kept to themselves. The notion for "The Nun, the Gun, and Tom Mix" arose from a one-time news item she heard on the radio about the drug cartels in Mexico and their infiltration into the music business. She was driving by the Tom Mix Memorial outside Tucson at the time.
