      Due to a fuel leak in its starboard engine, the interplanetary ship Pallas is stranded near Neptune and drifting toward the dreaded “dead area,” a graveyard of lost ships. Upon reaching it, the ship’s first officer, Kent, suggests to Captain Crain that they search for a ship that still has fuel in its tanks and pump it to the Pallas. Crain approves, but before they can execute the plan, a group of men in spacesuits approaches the ship. Their leader, Krell, explains that they’re survivors from a wrecked ship called the Martian Queen, but there’s something suspicious about them. Are they friend or foe?
