- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Not enjoying these stories -- the moralizing irritates me and the paranormal (ghosts and demons) bores rather than frightens. I read the first 2 stories and the first chapter of the third; the last two stories I have read previously in "The Gray Woman and Other Tales". Those two would be the best in this collection...
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Pedestrian ghost stories that don’t raise a single goosebump. Sins of the fathers is a common theme as curses and misfortunes redound through the generations. The title story is the shortest, lightest, and best, about a chap by the name of Richard Whittingham who stumbles upon an antique chateau in which a medley of fairy tale characters are having a reunion. The longest and dullest is “Lois the Witch”, a Salem story which isn’t supernatural in the slightest. The others are OK ideas but go on too long.
