About this ebook

Take it Like a Vamp by Candace Havens Vampire Nick Christos might've been born in the Middle Ages, but the good old days seem tame compared to the last eight years he's spent ruling the Supernatural Council. His only respite is with his cute neighbor Casey Meyers, a woman he wants more than any undead man should. Sure, he's forced to take a cold shower after every encounter, but there's no way he'll test his own strength by getting too close to a human, and he's not willing to risk her life--not with bloodthirsty family on the prowl out to ruin Nick's life.

When said Nick's kin shows up, the innocent Casey is caught in the middle of a centuries old fight, and Nick's biggest fear is realized. Now, instead of keeping his hands off his neighbor, he'll risk everything to save the human he's come to love.

Rubenesque paranormal romance is a fave, but this dragged for a bit and the angst dried up a little too quickly for my tastes. The world-building was a little spotty with the h being in the dark for the majority of the book, and the sexual tension led to a pretty abrupt sex scene. Still, there seems to be hints at a series, and I liked it enough to give it another go. (2.5 stars)

What a fun read! This book was quick and lighthearted, perfect for a beach read or cozy evening in! A really good paranormal romance with lots of comedy!

Casey was hilarious, I loved waiting to see what was going to come out of her mouth next. I can honestly say that she is my favorite character in the book. She is down to earth and takes everything with a healthy dose of humor. Nick is her next-door neighbor and one of her best friends. He is always there for Casey when she is down, and she's been secretly crushing on him for a while.

Nick was just awesome, the complete package! He's a successful business man, super-sexy, and well he's a vampire (and he can be a little bit of an Alpha). They've known each other for months, and even though they are close, he still hasn't told Casey.

Since Nick and Casey have been friends for a while before the book actually starts, their relationship moves fast but it is completely believable. The chemistry is great between them and I enjoyed watching it progress, and overall they were really good together!

This was an enjoyable read, and also a quick and steady read with no slow or boring parts. A fun book for those of us who like a good romance!

Disclaimer: I'm not a fan of straight up romances. But I am a fan of Candace Havens, having read and loved (and re-read regularly) 4 of her other books, so I eagerly jumped at the chance to read this one. It was a total disappointment. The entire story was rushed through, it seemed, in as few pages as possible and lacked any real depth. I liked the characters quite a lot - they had potential, especially Linc. But the story itself was weak, weak, weak. And there was none of the snappy dialogue or witty repartee I found and enjoyed so much in her other books.

Finally, if there was a copy editor on this book, they should be smacked. Really, truly awful job - lots of words missing, sentences that aren't complete or don't make sense. Too many to actually count.

Casey's Aunt/Uncle invited her to move in after the death of her parents. Casey's Aunt was rich and lived in a well guarded place that Casey could call home while she was alone when her Aunt was traveling. Casey also had a hunky rich neighbor/owner of the building that became her friend. Nick Christos was her friend for months, but she wanted this man. She was so in lust with him she even named her "toys" Mr. Nick. Then one day all of that changed. Nick started showing that he cared about her and invited Casey to a party where the rich and famous went to be seen. Nick was also there for a different reason, he planned on making Casey his and wanted to show her to the super natural world. That was when Casey's problems started. The vamps in this book are my favorite kind. Tall, dark, handsome & fangs. Casey had self-esteem problems & thought her curves were a curse. But the new hot men around her loved her curves and wanted nothing more than to touch them. The characters even though paranormal had a true to life feeling about them. You could relate to Nick wanting to care for his woman. Casey was weak in a sense she did not realize the power she held within until the love of her life brought her inner beast out in her. A great vampire read. I hope we hear about these vampires soon.Rating: 4Heat Rating: HotReviewed By: RaeCourtesy of My Book Addiction And More

Reviewed by: InderaBook provided by: PublisherReview originally posted at Romancing the BookI enjoyed this book. I was expecting more “paranormal” happenings in this book, but I was not disappointed. I categorized this book as a contemporary romance sprinkled with some paranormal spices. This book was very easy to read. I loved the humorous tone in the writing of Candace Havens. Many times I found myself laughing out loud. Below are a few memorable moments from the book that made me laugh out loud!“Is that why you went fangy?”“You can’t understand what it’s like to be the crunchy Milk Dud in the pack.”“Way to go embarrassing him with all the talk about vibrators and Milk Duds right after you flashed him.”I adored Casey and Nick. Casey is a beautiful woman but has no clue. Nick is her best friend and is a super hunk. They both have the hots for each other yet neither have a clue! I felt this made the story entertaining. Throughout the story Casey was so in need a a good man and some good loving. I laughed my butt off with her crazy thoughts and ideas which all seemed to be about getting some good loving… particularly from her best friend Nick who has NO IDEA she is lusting over him. The characters are well developed, there were several characters in the book and the author does give plenty of information and back story. I loved the personality of both Casey and Nick. I found myself relating to Casey throughout the whole book with her ideas of love and relationships and her past “failed” relationships and losers. She felt like a “girlfriend” to me. This made me want to keep reading! The fun starts when Nick is in need of a date for an event. He invites Casey to be his “date”. Before the he spoils and lavishes her with the royal treatment. He sends a limo for her, she gets pampered at a high end salon, and he provides her with a wardrobe of dresses to pick from-top designers. By the time she was ready, Casey felt like a fairy tale princess and that is exactly what Nick intended. The fairy tale princess portions of the this book made me love it even more. The book was just full of the “over the top” love story themes and scenarios but the humor and characters made it memorable and very enjoyable. You have your prince charming, your beauty with no clue, romance and excitement!Nick is head of the Council and is expected to marry and find a mate. Alvinia is a woman from his past that wants nothing more to ruin Nick and to join the council. There was some more hints and touches of “paranormal in this book” with all the Council dealings and the war between Nick and Alvinia. Alvinia wanted Nick for herself and will stop at nothing to destroy Nick’s ‘Casey’.On top of hurting Casey and filling her head with doubts, Nick has to find a way to to win Casey over. He needs to protect her from Alvinia and her demons. He has to convince her to marry him and mate with him. Problem is she has no clue that he is a Vampire. He loves her, he wants to be with her and now that he has brought her into this secret “Council” mess! Staying with her would be the only way he could protect her.The story does deepen as Casey ends up in Greece with her hot and sexy best friend. He is on a quest to make her fall in love, tell her the truth about himself and make her fall deeply in love that she will marry him! I did enjoy this read! This book was a short read. Short not by number of pages, but short because I could not put it down. I kept reading looking for more paranormal and vampire things but got much comedy and romance. I did find myself wanting more spicy sex scenes. The book cover is extremely sexy and led me to believe this book was more “adult” that it truly was. I did enjoy the bits of paranormal tied into an over the top romantic comedy. Author Havens references “Twilight” and “Tru Blood” along with WOW (World of Warcraft) and some other pop culture themes. I will say this book is refreshingly funny. For those paranormal readers I would not recommend this book, unless of course you are also a bit of a cheesy romance lover . This was a funny, sexy adventure that will be sure to keep you laughing and reading. Thumbs up for Candace Havens.

When I saw the summary for Tall, Dark, and Divine I was very interested because I am a sucker for Greek mythology. I love the twisted lives of the gods and goddess especially when we see them thrown into modern times. Luckily the publishers sent a copy my way and I dove into it eager to see what the ancient Greeks were up to in the world Jenna created. We enter into a world were Greek gods walk among us and sometimes like to meddle in the lives of humans. The focus of this book, Eros, is the god of love and he is currently nursing a major broken heart. He fell for the wrong girl and has sworn off love because of it. He is also neglecting his duties as the god of love and his friends are starting to worry. While he does wallow in self-pity for a while, he is still a very lovable guy. There were also some great secondary characters in this book that I adored. The best one was Dion! He owns a bar and never spends the night with the same woman twice. He had me laughing out loud quite a few times and I gravitated towards his sarcastic nature. The goddess you can tell he is head over heels for is Ari. She puts on a façade of being all work and no play and pretends to hate Dion, but there is a thin line between love and hate and these two are walking it. Their banter was very cute and I am just keeping fingers crossed that we will get to see them in their own book one day.As for the plot, Tall, Dark and Divine has paranormal elements in it with the gods and goddess, but it reads like a contemporary novel. There are obstacles for the characters to overcome, but they are more obstacles they created, not a villain who chasing them for the duration of the story. I am not usually one for contemporary books, but the Greek gods and goddesses were enough to keep my attention and interest in this story. The only real issue I had with this book was the ending. The first two thirds were great! I loved Eros and Annie, how they met, how they connected and the obstacles that stood in there way were fun to watch as they worked through them. However, when we get to about the last fifty pages the story fell flat for me. The book comes in under three hundred pages and there was plenty of time for things to develop naturally but instead the plot felt rushed. It was as if Jenna was forced to wrap up the book too quickly and solve the problems in a hurried manor. It was such a disappointment because the whole lead up was wonderful and I really enjoyed it. Everything was just accepted way too easily and I was having a hard time believing things would come together that smoothly. I wished there were another thirty to forty pages taken to wrap up the plot better. While I did have a couple of issues with the ending I still enjoyed this book. It was a fun, quick read and I did adore getting to know Eros and Annie. If Jenna does end up writing a book that involves Dion and Ari I know I will pick it up to watch those two hopefully get over themselves and just be together. I would check out a couple of other reviews of Tall, Dark, and Divine and maybe read the first couple of chapters to see what you think before you buy it yourself.

Read for ReviewOverall Rating 4.25Character Rating 4.50Story Rating 4.00First thought when Finished: What a deliciously fun read for a hot scorching afternoon! What I thought of the Characters: I loved the characters in Take it Like a Vamp! Nick was the smoldering hottie that we, aka me, wished really did live next door. He is kind, sweet, protective, and a little over-bearing at times (every good alpha is *sigh*). Casey, to me, is who stole the show though. She was talented, smart, and get this AN AVERAGE SIZED gal with gumption. She had some meat on her bones, some insecurities, and was loyal to a fault. She would help out anyone who needed it! Last but least, my Linc! He is Nick’s best friend and HOT, HOT, HOT! This had better be a series because I’m ready for the next book (it had better feature Linc)! What I thought of the Romance: The chemistry between Nick and Casey is evident from the beginning and feels very organic. I love friends to lovers romances–they are the best! Their attraction just jumps off the page at you and doesn’t feel forced! I felt that their personalities fit each other and that made the smexy better! I love when the main leads “fit”–different enough to keep each other on their toes but share enough in common that you can see a friend base there. What I thought of the Story: Overall the story was fun, light, and perfect for a lazy afternoon read. It was easy to devour in one setting! There was a little action, a little smexy time, a little fun, and all around a good love story!Final Thought: I will be waiting on book 2!
