    INTRODUCTION

    GETTING EVERYTHING STRAIGHT

In recent years, many have come to view worship as synonymous with praise and worship songs. This misconception leads some people to the conclusion that their worship each week exists solely within the realm of the songs they sing in church or certain music they listen to on their MP3 players.

God’s Word, however, points us to an infinitely broader view of worship—one that encompasses everything we do. Our thoughts, prayers, words, actions, relationships, work—even our play—can become vehicles for worship if our hearts are tuned to worship God.

Read the pages that follow to have your view of worship challenged and expanded.

    CHAPTER 1

    WHY WE WORSHIP

Right after a tragedy occurred in our community, I participated in what was probably the most impactful worship service of my life. In response to the tragedy, our church organized an impromptu service where we spent time praying and praising God.While I attended in an effort to support other community members who were directly affected by the tragedy, the service was surprisingly touching for me personally. As I worshipped God in prayer and song, He impressed upon me that He has the answers to the big why questions we all were asking. The reminder that God is still on the throne and that He knows what He’s doing—even when I can’t see it—proved to be a great comfort to me and gave me the hope I needed to be an encouragement to those around me.
