About this ebook

“One of the best of this series . . . Lively and well-plotted.” The New York Times Book Review

The spiritualist movement has captivated a segment of Victorian London: manifestations, the occult, and “sensitives” are in vogue. When séance sites become targets for theft, Sergeant Cribb and Constable Thackeray are on the case. But then someone murders the medium, and the two find themselves rubbing shoulders with some rather eccentric suspects.

Interesting main characters, historically accurate and a slow read. OK, entry in a good but dated series.

Cribb and Thackeray are called in, originally because their sycophantic inspector is doing a favor for a prominent scientist, to investigate thefts that occur while the owners of the stolen items are attending seances., but these are followed by the murder by electrocution of a promising medium.

A Sergeant Cribb mystery set in Victorian London. Made into a television series for Granada TV in Britain in 1977."At a respectable house in Richmond Hill, a medium was electrocuted during a seance. It was a case that needed the utmost discretion, with no help from the Other Side... Sergeant Cribb investigates the occult." - Penguin jacket notes.Historical fiction with some humour, good plot, not bad overall.
