- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Swordquest by Nancy Yi Fan is a great book. It's a prequel to Nancy Yi Fan's previous book, Swordbird, and it tells about the adventures of Swordbird: The legendary white bird in the book Swordbird. The book goes from Swordbird being born, to him becoming a guardian spirit. If you love the book Swordbird, you should definetly read Swordquest, because not only it tells about the adventures of Swordbird and his companions, it gives you better picture what happened BEFORE the book Swordbird. All in all, Swordquest is a wonderful book, and I encourage people to read it.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This summer I read the book Swordquest, by Nancy Yi Fan. In the book Windvoice and his feathery friends, Winger the woodpecker, Fleydur the eagle, and Stormac the myna, are trying to find the mystical gemstones that contain the secrets of a legendary sword. This sword holds the power to destroy all evil, or if in the wrong hands, embrace all evil. Unfortunately for them, Maldeor, the evil archaeopteryx king, is also after the sword. Swordquest is an amazing book. Nancy's use of dialogue and description make the characters pop out of every page. The fight scenes, though they may once in awhile be tiresome, seem to come alive in a variety of ways. I loved the scene when Winvoice is battling the archaeopteryx on the shoreline because it is one of the most action filled scenes in the book. Nancy Yi Fan is an amazing writer that readers of all ages will enjoy. One thing thing that I thought was very interesting about this book was that she used personification. "Somewhere among them, somebird whispered. Happy Birthday Swordbird ." This made the characters seem extrordinarily human. I also found this book to be very exciting. Every time I turned the page, I couldn't stop reading. My eyes were glued to the page as Nancy's writing filled my head with every glance of each page. When Windvoice's sword clashed with Maldefor's, I was jumping out of my seat. I loved Nancy Yi Fan's Swordquest. I appreciate her wonderful use of dialogue and description, and her ability to glue you to each page. I enjoyed Swordquest and can't wait to read her next book, Swordbird.
