- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Rodney Stark is an excellent read, as he offers an alternative viewpoint to the history that is so often taught in our educational system. He begins each section with a summary of what is commonly believed/taught in most schools. Examples include the backwardness of the dark ages, the extreme cruelty of the Spanish Inquisition, the claim that most early Christians were uneducated peasants and the claim that as the world becomes more educated, religion will disappear. He follows these summaries with claims of his own to the contrary, supported by lots of evidence and research.
I recommend this book to everyone, Christian or not, to give yourself an alternative view of what is taught in school. I also recommend his book "How the West Won", which is also very good and obviously more focused on history, comparable to "Guns Germs and Steel" in offering explanations of why some nations are wealthier than others. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5muy buen libro gracias interesante como enfoca la historia de la iglesia
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This excellent book provides an overview of history from a much more balanced and Christian-friendly perspective. Does tend in places to view events from a naturalistic viewpoint.
