Sylvia Frances Chan was born Sylvia Frances Tjan in Jakarta, Indonesia.
She comes from well-educated parents and has written short stories since she was fourteen years old. Some were featured in a youth section of the Indonesian Observer – for example,
“A Night To Remember”, “Homo Sapiens” and “Homo Ecconomiccus”. Her other talent is drawing and painting; she has done both since she was four years old. At the age of eleven,
she won a drawing-competition, led by Amy Lyssen, a well-known Dutch author. Amy’s youth section is called “De JavaBode Jeugdkrant;” Sylvia published many drawings and cartoons in it. At the age of fifteen, she had her first group-exposition in the Balai Budaya,
Jakarta. She was the youngest exposant. Sylvia is an all-round artist, and she creates each of her works of art punctually and with great pleasure. She has had many paintings, expositions and literary meetings. She has also several web blogs and websites, wherein she creates her own world, cards and quotations. Her most famous quotation is: “Words are very important in
our life, since we write with words, we communicate with words, and we write poetry with words.” As a poet she is rising now. You can also read her poems in PoemHunter.com, Poetfreak.com, Poetry.com, Multiply.com, Facebook.com, HelloPoetry, and Wordpress.com
