A voracious reader with reading and writing skills far above the standard expected of a junior secondary school student. Magdalene Attah has probably read more books than any child of her age. She completed the manuscript before her eleventh birthday. In her own words, “My motivation to write this book came when some of my friends started writing short stories and they brought them to me to critique, but I told them frankly their efforts were not up to standard and mere childish writings. Some of them were offended by my opinion, even though it was candid, and went ahead to challenge me to show I can write better, by saying, “if you claim to know so much, why can’t you write one” I saw this as a fair challenge and had to start writing the story of Amari and the Princess. Although the story is a fiction, I see part of it as reality in the life of many children. And I believe this book will be successful like Chinua Achebe’s Chike and the River”
When asked what her future ambitions are, she replied, “to become a successful writer like Professor Wole Soyinka and Chimamanda Adichie. Magdalene is the 4th child of a family of five children including two brothers and 2 sister and although one of the youngest in the family, her older siblings rely on her for support with spelling tricky words and other literally skills. Magdalene’s older brother is also a successful pop star in Nigeria.view less
