After a European tour the family eventually moved to the West Coast and settled at Vallejo, California. While Mills was still in high school he had befriended many a Pearl Harbor Survivor. He purchased his first automobile from a Survivor. Mills commenced to research the story when he was a graduate student and wrote the first of many drafts while employed on commercial tugboats out-of-southern Louisiana. At this time the story was incomplete. It was not until some years later when Mills found employment with Military Sealift Command that he acquired the experience to conclude the 25-year long project.
Mills is also the author of numerous poems, a musical libretto, short stories and two other published books; “Drake’s Bay,” and, “Subic Bay – The Last American Colony.”view less
