As a result of those experiences, at one point she had low self-esteem and kept wishing she was like other “slimmer persons”. In this book, she gives the secret to her weight loss while sharing her journey of self-acceptance and love.
However, her friend and husband Marvin Coleman always treated her with respect and love and never made her feel like she was unimportant because she was fat. In fact, he married her while she was still 240 pounds and helped her to battle her low self-esteem by emphasizing to her how beautiful she was to him. He often told her he loved her for who she was and how beautiful she was inside out despite being overweight. In this book, he wrote a chapter encouraging spouses of overweight persons to be more compassionate, patient and tolerant towards their overweight spouses. He emphasizes the importance of valuing our relationships and staying together despite the challenges of having an overweight spouse.
