Two OK murder type mysteries based on true events. Patterson however narrates them in his writing in a fictional way making characters and dialogue between victims, the perp, and those investigating.

To me this treatment distracts somewhat from the effect as he is interjecting his thoughts and feelings into the crime scenes.

The chapters are quite short and I do like that style as it adds to a fast pace page turning style that enhances the effect of the drama.

2 short books in one, along with a preview of the next Harriet Blue book - Fifty/Fifty. I enjoyed these, but not as much as the first in this series - Murder, Interrupted. The two stories are similar to the BookShots series, where they are both less than 150 pages and can be read in one sitting.

The first story is called Home Sweet Murder and is about a lawyer and his wife who open the door to a "SEC agent" and are then shot, stabbed, and tortured. Leo and Sue are still in love after many years of marriage, and can't understand why this person is trying to harm them.

The second story is Murder on the Run, which begins when a housekeeper and an 11 year old boy are stabbed and killed. Detective Mois and his partner work to track down the killer. The boy is the child of 2 doctors at a university hospital. When another doctor from the hospital and his wife are killed several years later, Mois finally gets a crack in the case to understand motive.

Both of these stories are about murder as revenge.

The preview about Harriet Blue is a continuation of the previous book featuring Harriet. Her brother has been arrested as the Georges River Killer, but Harriet is convinced of his innocence. Her hot-headedness gets her sent to the desert where she has to work for at least 9 days - and now she is on a case where someone has filled a diary of killings they intend to commit.

This book contains storified accounts of two true stories. The first is an apparent home invasion where the occupants are tortured by their captor. It's actually a revenge story, although the victims are clueless through most of the ordeal.

The second involves the baffling murder of a housekeeper and young teenage boy. The motives are unknown, but the MO is similar to another murder being investigated by Omaha detectives. The detectives vow to the boy's parents they will catch the killer, but it would be 5 years and another murder before the case finally breaks open.

If you like true crime TV shows, this book is up your alley.

Enjoyed the book. Good story telling without being over detail oriented. Can’t wait for the next one to be released!
