Two “true crime” stories written by the best selling author James Patterson. I listened to the audio version, which made me feel like I was listening to the sound track of one of NBC’s “Dateline” shows. I wasn’t familiar with the first story, “Murder Interrupted,” where a bored husband arranged for his wife’s murder. That story has literally been done on Dateline multiple times. The second story, “Mother of All Murders” is the strange story of Gypsy Rose Blanchard. This one is in the news right now because Gypsy Rose, at least the 2024 version of her, has just been released from prison after serving her 10-year sentence for participating in her mother’s murder. Timely but not much more entertaining than another Dateline show. I would say this, if you find yourself on a treadmill a few times a week, and you can’t seem to find anything to listen to, this might be your cup of tea. Like Dateline, you can come in and out of attention and not miss much in the interim.

I I am a true crime fanatic. I think James Patterson did a good job on this. Not even a full length novel can capture all the small details of a real life crime. I’m not sure if these have begun airing on ID yet but I look forward to watching them. Onto book number two.

Murder, Interrupted is actually 2 stories of 2 true crimes. The books read like an episode of 48 Hours or another of the sensationalized true crime investigations on TV.
The first story is about a businessman in TX who hires a hit man to kill his wife. The second story is about a mother with Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy who has kept her daughter confined to a wheelchair for years. The daughter, Gypsy Rose, tells a friend that the mother is dead.
Both of these stories are quick reads, as well as interesting, especially since they are true.

I’m a fan of true crime and enjoyed the book. It wasn’t heavy on facts but a fast, fun read!
