About this audiobook

Betty Bunny knows that her parents think she is a “handful”, but as with most of her misunderstandings, she determines it must be something good. Betty’s first true love (she intends to “marry chocolate cake”) adds to the fun in this realistic and deliciously sweet story.

So cute, so funny, and now I want chocolate cake! Unfortunately, it's a little too long for the littles in my 3-6 storytime group.

Betty Bunny discovers the wonders of chocolate cake. Sadly, there is no chocolate cake at school and she cannot, she finds, get chocolate cake until she eats her healthy food. She does not want to eat her healthy food. She only wants chocolate cake. This can only lead to trouble.“The next morning, Betty Bunny wanted to say good-bye to her chocolate cake before she left for school. So she opened the refrigerator and saw her piece of cake sitting on the plate. Betty Bunny knew that the cake would miss her all day while she was at school. So she picked it up and put it in her pocket. At school, her teacher said, ‘Betty Bunny, you seem very happy today.’ Betty Bunny just giggled. There was chocolate cake in her pocket and no one knew it but her.’An all-too-real Betty Bunny and her trials with cake.

Reluctant to try new things, Betty Bunny won’t have anything to do with chocolate cake. That is, until she tries a bite, and then she can’t stop talking about the dessert! Everything reminds Betty Bunny of chocolate cake—learning the alphabet, recess, eating healthy foods. Unable to contain her excitement for her favorite new food, Betty Bunny decides to have a piece of chocolate cake accompany her to school…in her pocket. Betty Bunny antics are precocious and lovable, and her mistakes in listening and behaving provide a lesson in being patient. The language is kid-friendly and relatable, like when Betty Bunny calls her mother a handful, thinking it is meant as an endearing term. The ending is cute and appropriate, and the illustrations by Stéphane Jorisch deserve admiration for their whimsical and original nature. For ages 4-8. Recommended.
