About this audiobook

This audiobook is narrated by a digital voice.

In the glittering world of 1870s New York, Newland Archer, a man of impeccable breeding, is poised to marry the beautiful and conventional May Welland. Their union promises a life of comfort and social standing, a perfect reflection of their gilded age. Yet, the arrival of May's enigmatic cousin, Countess Ellen Olenska, casts a shadow over their impending nuptials. Ellen, ostracized for daring to defy societal norms, ignites a spark of passion in Newland he never knew existed. Torn between duty and desire, Newland embarks on a forbidden journey, risking everything he holds dear for a love that threatens to shatter the gilded cage of his world. Will he choose the comfort of conformity or the exhilarating freedom of love? Immerse yourself in a timeless tale of love, loss, and the suffocating beauty of a bygone era in "The Age of Innocence."

Edith Wharton

Edith Wharton (1862–1937) was an American novelist—the first woman to win a Pulitzer Prize for her novel The Age of Innocence in 1921—as well as a short story writer, playwright, designer, reporter, and poet. Her other works include Ethan Frome, The House of Mirth, and Roman Fever and Other Stories. Born into one of New York’s elite families, she drew upon her knowledge of upper-class aristocracy to realistically portray the lives and morals of the Gilded Age.
