They secretly marry, but a fateful fight erupts, claiming the life of Juliet's cousin. Romeo, blamed and banished, flees the city. Juliet, desperate to escape an arranged marriage, takes a potion that makes her appear dead. The message informing Romeo of the plan goes astray, leading him to believe Juliet is truly gone. Grief-stricken, he takes his own life. Juliet awakens to find her beloved dead and, consumed by despair, takes her own life as well. Their deaths finally bring their families to their senses, ending the senseless feud.
