About this audiobook
Since its first publication in 1908, Scouting for Boys has been one of the bestselling books in the English language. Subtitled A Handbook for Instruction in Good Citizenship, the book draws on a miscellany of material, including Baden-Powell's own military experiences, and is credited with giving birth to the scout movement. The text covers the topics of Scoutcraft, Tracking and Observation, Woodcraft, Camp Life and First Aid, in addition to suggesting a range of scout activities and games. Written against a background of British colonialism, Scouting for Boys is both a fascinating historical document and a valuable guidebook for the modern scout.
Robert Baden-Powell
Robert Baden-Powell OM, GCMG, GCVO, KCB was a lieutenant-general in the British Army, and, famously, the founder of the Scout Movement. He served in the British Army from 1876-1910 in India and Africa, and these experiences served as the basis for many of his writings on military tactics, training, doctrine and scouting techniques. His book Scouting for Boys has sold more than 100 million copies.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Fascinating! Great reader. Easy to get caught up in the cheerful positivism and self-assurance, made me want to be a scout. Surprisingly modern on some topics (pro women, vegetarian, unity across social classes), some pro-tips - I'm looking forward to listening for footsteps via a knife stuck in the ground.
There are some very imperialist, colonialist sections that are fascinating from a historical perspective (this is pre-WWI), but are racist and hard to hear with a modern ear.
