Short on time? Or maybe you’ve already read the book, but need a refresh on the most important takeaways. In a quick, easy listen, you can take the main principles from On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century!
In On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century, Timothy Snyder provides a stark warning for the future of American democracy. Too easily are we ignoring the ways in which tyranny starts to eat away at democracy. As our political system faces new threats—not unlike those faced by democracies in the twentieth century—we must look to the past to safeguard our future.
With lessons from the rise of communist and fascist regimes in Europe during the previous century, Snyder provides a blueprint for how we can protect the basic rights promised in our constitution through the mundane choices we make every day and the difficult choices we may be forced to make in the near future.
This audiobook encapsulates key takeaways found in the original book. We’ve also provided an in-depth analysis as well as removing any fluff to save you hours of your time. If you’ve read the original, then this audio summary will help you solidify the most important lessons.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5While the topic is excellent, & even the summary is decent, the poor editing is so distracting as to render it useless. Hearing repeated coughs, clearing of throat, etc., are unprofessional. My suggestion is a new edit on what is a worthy topic.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Part way into the summary the narrator starts clicking a clicker, clearing his throat, and even belching. I couldn’t continue listening at that point.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I listened to this with my daughter. We had a great discussion and level of understanding from two different generational perspectives. This was an insightful conversation starter that I would recommend is explored and listened to among multi-generational families.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5context is 5 star
audio quality is poor
still worth your time to understand this! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5So worth reading, a comprehensive summary. The full book with illustrations i great.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Someone should listen to the book before releasing it! As noted in other reviews, this audio has not been properly checked and edited.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Very interesting book, very easy to understand and to follow. The problem is the audiobook has an unedited chapter and you can hear the mistakes and even a burp.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This subject is scary but so necessary. We need to learn from history and be on guard for our future freedoms
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Very bad recording. Kept repeating and cutting out. Maybe re-record?
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5It is a good summary but marred by poor editing of the audio. From about halfway through there are a lot of irritating clicking, throat clearing, and other noises. These should have been removed before the audio was released. They completely distract from what the narrator is reading.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Well read!! BUT needs more thorough editing of the audio!! A few simple fixes.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5It’s really well laid out, informative, and great narration, so it’s a shame the unedited chapter is so distracting from the content. Would give it 5 stars if not for that.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5A very interesting book HOWEVER read by a guy who belches and clears his throat constantly (chapter 7, 8). ... Seriously ???? I’d hope this was professionally produced product what is the problem here? Totally disappointed his voice is very annoying as well.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I liked the summary but you need to listen to it. You did not delete several throat clearing and a burp.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Few burps in one chapter but that’s okay. It made me pay more attention.
