      Ignore the review saying no character building - either they didn’t listen to the end or didn’t understand the plot.

      It’s a “scene” about being brought to the IRS office. Afterwards they talk and it’s clear they know each other, etc.

      Also, this is a novella/short story in the Andre Chevalier world/book series. Yes, it’s a standalone but is better appreciated after reading the other full novels in the series. Andre is an interesting and complex character in at least 3 or 4 other books by this author. I enjoyed several of them but *trigger*warning on a couple of them - deal w/ physical and emotional trauma.
